For The Weekend

TANKA

rainy saturday
thank you for all of these songs
a treasured gift
suits the haze grey drizzly mood
lazy day writing poems

Sunday's Whirligig 159

This week's words come from Joy  Harjo's poem "Praise The Rain"

spirit roads dignity spirit path rain praise cloud singer more song forget

the holy spirit
gives us free will
to choose the roads

choose the path
which leads to dignity

give thanks for the rain cloud
praise the lord for  bird song
the butcher bird singer
the raven's caw

forget the concept of more
enjoy what you have

Heath Robinson

heath robinson's invention
for maintaining a happy marriage
intimacy edwardian style

no more sleepless nights
baby gets the fresh night air
parents get some sleep

no one could envisage
there would ever be
a movie screen in a car
this was a fantasy trip

the lazy gardener
you need a robust wife
for this invention
she gets the gardening done
and a workout as well

don't try this
alone at home
there are other ways
to achieve muscle tone
but not as much fun

For The Weekend

On a morning from a Bogart movie
In a country where they turn back time
You go strolling through the crowd like Peter Lorre
Contemplating a crime
She comes out of the sun in a silk dress running
Like a watercolor in the rain
Don't bother asking for explanations
She'll just tell you that she came
In the year of the cat

She doesn't give you time for questions
As she locks up your arm in hers
And you follow 'till your sense of which direction
Completely disappears
By the blue tiled walls near the market stalls
There's a hidden door she leads you to
These days, she says, I feel my life
Just like a river running through
The year of the cat

While she looks at you so cooly
And her eyes shine like the moon in the sea
She comes in incense and patchouli
So you take her, to find what's waiting inside
The year of the cat

Well morning comes and you're still with her
And the bus and the tourists are gone
And you've thrown away your choice you've lost your ticket
So you have to stay on
But the drum-beat strains of the night remain
In the rhythm of the new-born day
You know sometime you're bound to leave her
But for now you're going to stay
In the year of the cat

Year of the cat
Songwriters: Peter Wood / Al Stewart

Erasure Poem

you go strolling
your arms in hers
like the moon in the sea
the bus gone
you've lost your ticket
for now you're staying

Haibun
it was the best of years
it was the time to be young
full of promise and hope
rainbow cafes were ubiquitous
this song was played constantly
on the air waves
it was always summer

rainbow time
we found the crock of gold
it slipped through our fingers

Wordle # 190 - MLMM

HAIBUN

Wordle # 190 MLMM
unthinkable thread bend minatory social thirst
pen impasse bride erudite underneath scatter

twas unthinkable
to bend the social rules
scatter brained scarlett's
thirst for respectability and money
was entrenched and stamped 'southern'

rhett minatory and opportunistic
saw marriage as a stroke of the pen
scorned erudition had a way with air heads
wanted scarlett as a bride
another chattel to add to his collection

underneath his macho guise
the lothario found scarlett's desire for his  money
an impasse
he craved a declaration of   'lurve'  (fondness did not cut it)
to feed his fragile insecure ego
a strong thread of greed and vacuity bound them together
the perfect  match made in hell

 high melodrama
'kiss me you fool' film genre
foolishness for sure
