GLORIA IN EXCELSIS DEO. Antonio Vivaldi. Director: Antonio Fauró

Weekly Scribblings # 50

she is uneasy about her future

 trust in the lord

 he is with you

you are not alone

 whispered  the ancestors

 hopefully

next week's joyous blessed event

will bring out the best in everyone

where kindness and generosity

will prevail

 if only momentarily

hopefully

it will provide

a distraction from the ominous reality

she feels  deep down in her bones

 of an uncertain new year

Take Care of Yourselves

Take Care of Others

Never underestimate the healing power of

Random Acts of Kindness

no matter how small

Merry Christmas Everyone !

CANTERBURY TALES by Geoffrey Chaucer

The Millers Tale

15 This Absalom plumped down upon his knees,
    And said: "I am a lord in all degrees;
    For after this there may be better still
    Darling, my sweetest bird, I wait your will."
    The window she unbarred, and that in haste.
620          "Have done," said she, "come on, and do it fast,
    Before we're seen by any neighbour's eye."
          This Absalom did wipe his mouth all dry;
    Dark was the night as pitch, aye dark as coal,
    And through the window she put out her hole.
625    And Absalom no better felt nor worse,
    But with his mouth he kissed her naked arse
    Right greedily, before he knew of this.
    Aback he leapt- it seemed somehow amiss,
    For well he knew a woman has no beard;
630    He'd felt a thing all rough and longish haired,
    And said, "Oh fie, alas! What did I do?"
          "Teehee!" she laughed, and closed the window too;
    And Absalom went forth a sorry pace.

(now you know the origin of teehee... dates back to 1300 )

Koshihimo

For Adele Alexandrine Ludivine

a baby sitter whenever needed
bearer of jars of delicious barley broth
fresh flowers picked from her tiny garden
fresh herbs and sometimes a small bottle
of eau de cologne

her granddaughter
always returned home to a
a pile of washing and ironing done
dusting? gasp !( who did that)
shopping coupons? (gasp !)
a gift of sensible stockings (gasp !)
a fifty dollar note in a birthday card
which she could little afford
from coins set aside all year
and countless other gifts and kindnesses
all accepted as a rite of passage

an expectation
blood being thicker than water
(so they say)
thinking it was  nothing extraordinary
until her selfish granddaughter learnt|
through her arduous journey in life

that it was extraordinary
that she was extraordinary
and with lasting regret
realising it far too late
when she had  already gone
