"Va’ Pensiero" in Odessa The Whirligig # 364

THIS WEEK'S WORDS come from "Lion" by Tina Chang: chewed, pursued, moved, mother, modern, morphed, rust, taste, waiting, tree, hunger, dappling

waiting for the bombs to fall

people pursued chewed up spat out

hunger in their bellies

moved to underground railway stations

the taste of blood and rust morphed into fear

a child crying over his dead mother

hugs a tree in the dappling sunlight

we call it modern day warfare-

Earthweal Weekly Challenge... The Forest

Inspired by Sherry's poem

A Song for Big Lonely Doug

STARDREAMING With Sherry Blue Sky

a struggling little community
spend their pennies to save their 800 year old trees
on the west coast of Canada
the home of poets artists and musicians
the last remaining tree as old as the magna carter
a spiritual stalwart on this earth a witness
and keeper of  secrets of the natural world
the trees...our breathing earth angels
a testament to the Lord our God

what kind of rubbish leaders do not think
an 800 year old tree is a very very big deal?
ones who would feel more at home somewhere else
in hellfire

Thomas Tallis 1505 - 1585... If Ye Love Me

Brendan's  Wild Prayer for Earthweal

If ye love me
Keep my commandments

And I will pray the father

And He shall give you another comforter
That He may 'bide with you forever
That He may 'bide with you forever

E'en the spirit of truth
E'en the spirit of truth
E'en the spirit of truth
E'en the spirit of truth

That He may 'bide with you forever
That He may 'bide with you forever

E'en the spirit of truth
E'en the spirit of truth
E'en the spirit of truth
E'en the spirit of truth

 imagine that

a peace emblem

growing out of a crack in the wall

must be a sign

i'm getting one

to put on my balcony

hope the russians downstairs

don't mind

Earthweal

 the language of the wild

not always spoken

but understood nevertheless

these beauties

would like a drink

dropping hints

guess who copied my outfit

i was here centuries before

the crusaders

check out my magnificent profile

and then tell me i am just

a random result of the big bang

oh the smell of cooked chicken

just put it beside the plant

if you don't mind

you can't be serious

don't even think about

letting a dog into this house

Sunday Muse # 202....

the best ones

are always out of reach

yet she finds a way

okay gels

off with the shoes and stockings

let's be devils and wet our feet

playing cards in top hats

with a few nips of sherry under the belt

beats choir practice with the vicar

playing with fire

 is for sissies

 playing with knives

is what we are really good at

Earthweal Weekly - Animal Poetry

For this challenge, write an animal poem, ensouled with the animal body in your animal mind. You can embrace the extra-human wherever it is found, in beast, fish, tree, land- or seascape or star canopy.

hard to choose

between the raucous laughing kookaburra

and the larrikin  potty mouth cockatoo

both wonderful aussie birds representing

the character of the nation

kookaburras laugh at everything

just like me -  irreverent and rebellious

the larrikin potty mouth cockatoo

is just like me too

except

if I were a cockatoo using foul language

everyone would think I was very cute

subpar common grumble grip backwards shadows woody mobile cry execute sharp speed

get a grip woody

don't cry

stop grumbling

your mobile is subpar

not up to speed

quite common

when you buy online

you get ripped off

you've got to be alert and sharp

when dealing with the shadow shysters

nasty backward types

a tattoo .' execute ' scrawled across his forehead

should have rung alarm bells

 her words came ringing back

poor people

cannot afford to buy cheap shoes

it took a while before her granddaughter

understood what she meant

Earthweal and Friday Writings # 16

 and the rains came

and did not stop

and hit queensland and nsw

and caused devastation

and still more rain

and still not stopping

and the  mozzies carrying

dengue fever and encephalits

are having a field day

and covid is still with us

and russian psycho boy

dreaming of restoring

the holy russian empire

is still with us too

and why does that

 neon sign

keep flickering  all the time
