looking for a friend
like most of us
something very lonely
about an iceberg
in search of an ocean liner
death wish
why do they do it
no one knows
now i know
why my forebears
hotfooted it out
to white sand and palm trees
thank you
pretty in pink
all the trees are burnt
no california dreamin in this one
free as a bird
it's not as good
as it seems
ducks on the pond
have it easier
so this is
just a random result
from the big bang
yeah sure
uh oh
school holidays
the overpacked family car
poor visibility
my days may be numbered
are we there yet?
the familiar cry
of those poor deprived children
who didn't have
smart phones
head phones
and had no option but
to look out of the window
or
read a book
last day of school
teacher lets off steam
never going back
not all who wander are lost
OLW # 137
many summers ago
i was stung
by an italian bee
on my back
in a florence flower market
the flower stall holder told me
it was because i was as sweet as honey
he put ice on the sting gave me a posy of flowers
and kissed me on the shoulder as i left
since that day
i have never had another bee sting
or
been kissed by an italian
think it's time to return
hopefully
this well earned break
this fresh beginning
will solve our problems
will make for a better life
we board the Titanic tomorrow
is that watermelon ice i see in the distance?
not a good omen
what is on that ice floe over there?
oh a couple of geriatrics who have reached their use by date
didn't know they were still allowed to do that
i am suddenly realising that this is a dangerous world for a bear
don'r know what i can do about it
our only hope is for some kindly humans
to save us
we must learn to
scratch SOS into the ice
then they will think we're cute
may give us a better chance
our almost extinct koala cousins
are having some success with emphasisng
the cuddly cute factor
although
cuddling a polar bear is not that easy
LYRICS
i see the crystal raindrops fall
and the beauty of it all
when the sun comes shining through
to make those rainbows in my mind
when I think of you sometime
and I wanna spend some time with you
just the two of us
Tanka
just the two of us
we'll muddle along trying
to survive the rat race
the world's a big ugly mess
we only have each other
WORDLE
it wasn't like him to lavish
gifts on her
especially after what had transpired last summer
with all those heated exchanges
he was cagey about the cost of these
ivory sand coloured flowers with brittle stalks
when quizzed
scowling he felt waylaid
he could never live up to her
ethereal expectations

pirate forehead imagine footpath abrupt volunteer colleague sway sapphire pavilion confess tact
she abruptly confessed to her colleague
but still with tact
she had no intention of volunteering dressed
as a pirate for the charity event held at the sapphire pavilion
imagine
wearing scarves around one's forehead
swaying and waving swords about
on the footpath
not happening
Queen Elizabeth II died September 8th 2022
the queen is dead
long live the king
dust to dust
ashes to ashes
no one escapes
the grim reaper
not the chess queen
not the real queen
may her majesty's favourite horses
await her arrival
in the big ascot in the sky
may she rest in peace

granny

liars
secret
meld/melds/melded
ambrosia
strangers
shrunk
scalding
obsession
gods
it was no secret
she drew the crowds
her musical gift was ambrosia from the gods
ticket holders melded with strangers
carrying pizza boxes wandering in
from the street
her critics (granny types )
obsessed with correctness
launched scalding attacks about her attire
they said her shrunk jeans
and off the shoulder shirt
were not appropriate
she would need to be covered up
to be permitted to play in the cathedral
liars
she could wear blue hair
she could wear red hair
she could wear a tutu
it wouldn't matter
Dariia Lytvishko
it must be spring
foxes love flowers
they love
plump juicy black swans
even better
puss likes playing
a few bass notes on the piano
from time to time
makes her feel very creative
more superior and competitive
with the dog of the house
who insists on showing off
currying favour
by presenting her mistress
with bunches of flowers
no one knew how chandelier man
managed to conjure up chandeliers
which dropped magically from the sky
not easy to do i expect
however this evening was important
he was planning on proposing to
the sea captain's widow
she stood on the shore every day
looking out to sea in vain
hoping for her husband's return
don't like her chances
don't like his either
a ma belle grandmere
you have never left me
i think of you every day
i still wear your bracelet
i still pray with your rosary beads
i still use your garlic crusher
and your red saucepan
i know you loved pansies and geraniums
i know you loved Charles Boyer
and Maurice Chevalier
you transformed your humble little abode into a palace
a haven of security and warmth
i know you would have loved to live in a house like this
i wish i could have given it to you.
and of course what would a birthday be
without you singing along with Tino Rossi on a 78 disc
the avocados (your favourite) are plentiful and much cheaper now
the chicken is too but no flavour
the wine is no longer corked
people eat food from tins
and takeaway
the world is different now
you wouldn't like it
je t'aime ma belle memere
tu me manques
thank you for years of enrichment
colour kindness and love
