Friday Writings # 142...Poets and Storytellers United

 NONET / PALINDROME

heartbreaking to watch his sad demise

                       he disintegrates before me

                          now unrecognisable

                         ravaged by cruel ill health

                            trim and taut no more

                               his beauty gone

                                  so strong bright

                                    handsome

                                       once

What's Going On

 For Sumana's prompt at WHAT'S GOING ON....OVERCOMNG

WE SHALL OVERCOME

brings back memories

we sang this protest song in the 70s

on our many marches

these now old ladies  achieved many changes

for the liberation of women

finally stopping the death lottery

and the vietnam war

yet sadly there is still so much to overcome

in a dangerous  world gone insane

where it seems the dark forces are winning

historically evil never lasts

the light will shine through

the dark comes before the dawn

but it seems the dark is endless

if each of us could splinter a small crack in it

we could create an overwhelming light

BECAUSE

 AND WE WILL

Tanka Tuesday # 49

TANKA 1

 a tranquil setting

wattle blooms early again

springtime has arrived

sydney dresses up for spring

always wears her sunday best

 TANKA 2

these two in love  cats

think they are doing it tough

because their slaves serve

 "canned" salmon not fresh sometimes

and the birds make too much noise

TANKA 3

noisy  butcher birds

if only they would enter

the clouds and stay there

instead of interrupting

our cat naps with raucous squawks

Bach - Brandenburg Concerto No. 6 in B-flat major BWV 1051 - 3. Allegro

For those who don't know about the story behind Bach's Brandenburg concertos. In 1721, Bach

composed six “concertos for various instruments”. He dedicated them to a German nobleman and sent

the manuscript as a gift, hoping to land a job as the court composer in Brandenburg. The nobleman

never replied. Bach eventually took another job in Leipzig, where he lived for the rest of his life. Bach

had sent his original and there were no copies. The 6 concertos were lost for 130 years. They were

never performed. The manuscript was eventually sold for about $20 and shelved in a library. The

Brandenburg Concertos sat there until 1849, when they were discovered and published for the first

 time.

SHADORMA

how many
lost masterpieces
are lying
mouldering
away in dusty archives
more precious than jewels

sadly some
have gone forever
have faded
disappeared
due to inferior ink
and antique parchment

Friday Writings # 141 Poets and Storytellers United

if  her fate

was to be chained to a kitchen sink

cook bottle washer  char lady combo

then

it had to be in pink

NO NO NO

rise up

break the chains

they cried

join the real world out there

take your place as a world beater

become a VIP

or even prime minister or president

but in her dreams after a while

unlike the liberated others

she found herself secretly

missing her chains

she wanted no part of it

out there in the real world

happy now

 to be labelled boring  unfulfilled

one of life's losers

a nobody

she just wanted to  be a hermit

 live alone with her cat

to

create poetry art music and tapestry

to open recipe and embroidery books

hidden away ( in embarrassment)  for decades

behind the proust and kafka

cook delicious food

try her hand at making conserves

spend an entire day

 in bed

reading romantic novels

 eating chocolate biscuits

Innocent Masuku LIGHTS UP stage with 'Nessun dorma' | The Final | BGT 2024

 FRIDAY WRITINGS #130

scary
the idea of competition
scary
not winning
scary
no one will like your work
scary
you might fail

no need to be scared
talent
real talent cannot be hidden
it shines like a beacon
masuku should have won
he didn't
his talent did not disappear
because he did not win
keep at it
never give up

and remember
not everyone
well no one really
thought the emporer was wearing any clothes
truth will out eventually

What's Goin On.....

marmalade boy has attitude

he knows he is beautiful

and knows we adore him

he likes fresh prawns  salmon

and pilchards

being groomed with a soft brush

purrs like an engine

is extremely affectionate

is bilingual

loves books (lying on them)

is very protective

alerted us to a burglar

breaking in

and a python in the roof

a brave little puss indeed

he can never be replaced

he gave our life a dimension

that could never have been attained

without him

it was a pleasure to spoil him rotten

he gave so much in return

God given he was

always remembered

never forgotten

By the pricking of my thumbs,
something wicked this way comes.
Macbeth

 something wicked this way comes

he's a red headed buffoon with a big fat bum

he's as thick as a brick with plenty of money

spends a  lot of his time chasing playboy bunnies

he's a convicted felon an absolute disgrace

and not fit for purpose in this political race

i feel sorry for those citizens

with a brain and good sense

who are subjected to this horror show

 the consequences  immense

let 's  hope he slopes away

back to his golf course

or rides off into the sunset permanently

with his best mate on a horse

HI HO SILVER

HEY that's not the colour of my hair

mine is blondish red and beautiful

hand dyed with great care

Whats Going On.... ANGER

too old

too tired

to be angry

anymore

anger is

self destructive

eats away at you

you can  still fight

armed

with smiles

laughter

silliness

kindness

and

 as my nana

used to say

to her hot headed

wilful stroppy granddaughter

you draw more flies

to the honey

than to the vinegar

TANKA TUESDAY # 46

 famous contralto

sings spring is coming with sounds sights

 and fragrant blossoms

swaying to the hum of  bees

birds singing in every tree

In the village of Higher Walton, by the side of the River Darwen on Higher Walton Road, stands a memorial to Kathleen Ferrier. One of the most celebrated singers of her generation, she was born in the small mill village in 1912. The monument was unveiled on 22nd September 1993, forty years after Kathleen’s premature demise. At the time of her death, it is said that her popularity was second only to that of the queen.
