AUSTRALIA You're Standing In It !

LIVERPOOL PLAINS..to be mined

Hunter Valley mine
a drab pulsating nightmare
of land destruction.

For Sale
to the highest bidder

mining ancient plains
home of the dinosaurs and
rich volcanic soil

plebs can eat coal dust
the government needs money
so go fook yourselves
farmers

what about the kids
dust diseases and cancer?

toss your tendrils in the air
and just don't breathe it in

when all is said and done

if you're not happy
go live on the moon-
while it's still cheap
and no mining yet

For The Weekend

HAIKU HEIGHTS

you always said " ooh
you'll wait a long time for me "
i am not waiting

i am not waiting
for anyone- ever- just
thought i'd let you know

come and rescue me?
i don't think so -" ooh big boys
 don't cry " do they?

don't think i love you
i'm writing this poem because
i'm a  romantic

(a hopeless one)

Disturbing The Peace

one  hot summer's day
three polite little nuns
go down to the river
to cool off
for some fun

poor luvs in serge habits
don't have many treats
so they indulge in a
some icy ginger beer
which is sadly rather sweet

they giggle and wiggle
their toes in the water
bragging naughty nuns
charity's daughters

enjoying themselves
in such a delight
until a dikkie old duck
gliding by
gave them an awful fright

French Lesson 2

je suis anglais
j'economise sur l'eau
je prends du bain avec ma femme
j'ai peur
j'ai perdu le savon
elle sourit d'une air satisfait
peut-etre
elle revasse
de lecher les vitrines

literal translation

i am english
i am saving water
i am taking a bath with my wife
i am scared
i have lost the soap
she smiles with a satisfied look
perhaps
she daydreams
of licking the windows

english translation

i am english
to save water
i am bathing with my wife
i am scared
i have lost the soap
she smirks
perhaps
she is daydreaming
about window shopping

Haiku Heights

that sinking feeling
at dusk always missing you
a painful dull ache

footprints in the sand
washed away in the king tide
forbidden feelings

sand through my fingers
no substance at all really
dusk turns into night

For The Weekend

dusk and Rome still burns
Nero sings his loony songs
ash caught in his throat

castrates slave Sporus
makes him empress in same sex
marriage  - nothing new

The Golden Cage

nessun dorma
luscious notes
came floating across the harbour
with intermittent applause

ferries -  slow moving lantern lit snails
crawling on water to the tinkling
of halyards

such beauty squandered
all  she could think of
with dismal dread
was the cleaner coming
early in the morning
and having to listen
to her mindless waffle

Growing Up

he was almost 8
arrived at the airport
to pick up Dad

saw the look
still remembers it
to this day
even though
a life time ago

things were
never the same
again

Haiku Heights

when she broke the chains
the death knell tolled for her-she
existed no more

she looks from outside
always apart from the crowd
a fly on the wall

OK  Huey you
can write the script but  just send
the  rain s'il vous plait

my plants are smiling
a big drink of water is
what the doctor said

35 degrees
it's only 8 am set
to be a scorcher

cacti need water
i need to swim in the sea
next week i will go

that's not in the script
i'm doing it anyway
Huey- make it rain

January

a million midges
in plague proportions
attack the lamps
on this filthy hot
new year's night

whilst

viennese ice maidens
waltz
to the blue danube
incongurous
on an infested
crawling tv screen

the radetsky march
in clipped compound teutonic rhythim
booms on
to delighted smiling japanese
at the guilded palace
a plethora of
baroque cherubs and gold

TURN IT OFF
commands the cry
from a distant bedroom

I go outside
look up at the
big yellow cheese
setting the paddocks alight

strip off
hose myself down with icy tank water
crisp dry in minutes
the hot breeze filtering
through pungent pepper trees
a portent of the cruel summer to come

JANUARY

never a good month
a month of strategies
to survive
the heat
bush fires
breaking down of appliances
dust
the school holidays
idle winter escapees  in droves
Christmas ghosts

the month of
short tempers
nagging
break ups
sun burn
heat stroke
shorter tempers
snail pace traffic
road rage
falling out
kings tides
 financial fiascoes

and

AUSTRALIA  DAY

solution

death by drowning
in a sea of pink bubbly
having consumed
 crates of Sydney Rock Oysters
