Midweek motif poets united
dverse

charlotte

a successful celebrity
battling depression
trying to stave off
the inevitable aging process

the heroine

since her death she has been overwhelmed
with messages of love and support

all the yearning
all the exquisite pain

this grand passion
was it worth it?

death by torture
ending up
wearing a train as a hat

Anyone For Crambo?

The English call it Crambo. The French called it Bouts - Rimes.

Ron Padgett's  rhymes for bouts - rimes.
Teachers and Writers Handbook Of Poetic Forms. 2nd ed.

tanned, jump, fanned, lump, reading, lawn, misleading, yawn ,yo-yo ,death, no-no, breath, France pants

a sonnet  for dverse

sun spots and cancer, forget being tanned
white skin it is, fashion - take a big jump

will lie in shade under palm fronds green fanned
exercise more or turn into a lump

will take up new hobby called speed reading
get up early  to mow weeds and the lawn

set  all things straight and not be misleading
pay attention in lectures, smile not yawn

stop bouncing around like a crack-ed yo-yo
think seriously of topics like death

keep views to one's self,opinions a no-no
forget bigots, don't bother, save your breath

treat yourself to a holiday in France
waist band bursts - Ah, fine French food and tight pants

Marmalade Heart

Poets United
Midweek Motif

she lost her heart  a while ago
to an indifferent  chef
it got buried in a mush marmalade
which blew up in a microwave

if she finds it again
she resolves  to take better care of it
not throw it away
like ripped confetti
in a ticker tape parade

present it perhaps
carefully gift wrapped
to a serious philosopher
a Plato or Descartes

who can ponder epistemology
and who may well conclude
like the chef
elle n'existe pas

Shark

there is no shark net
so we take a risk swimming
this guy was lucky

just went right on by
wonder how many times this
has happened to me

Sunday Afternoon At The Cove

 dverse: poets united

orange purple white and green
a striped awning over the kiosk
flaps in the light breeze
against a backdrop
of electric blue plumbago and
red hibiscus
growing behind the low sandstone wall
convict pick marks still visible

on shell white sand
dotted with bright umbrellas
striped deck chairs
bodies of all colours
shapes and sizes
strewn over the beach
adorable little tots
in bright pink plastic sun specs
with minature boards
gambol and frolic
on the waters edge

a birthday party is happening
with bottles of champagne
plates of summer fruits
prawns and cold chicken
on a swanky boat moored  too
close to the shore

squealing tanned blondes
with rockmelon boob jobs
in micro bikinis dive off the deck
china pretends not to notice
and in wet suits
we swim out into the
sun's reflection
patterned and wavy on the crystal clear water
two figures bathed in gold

For The Weekend

dverse

MY CHAIR

To be sung to the above Platters Song  " My Prayer"

when the twilight is gone
and no song birds are singing
when the twilight is gone
time for  evening to start
and here comes the part
where i sit and stare
saying  a prayer in my chair

my chair
i flop into - great view
at the end of the day
by the ocean so blue

my chair
in my lounge room so vast
with the world far away
in my white plastic chair

tonight
i will sit  - drink in hand
o pressing my toes
on the very wet sand

my chair
all i own mine to give
have no home have no things
for as long as i live
i will always be there
at the end of my chair

Love

poets united

three little words
some ache to hear
some never hear
some hear all the time

three little words
commonplace diminished
words just words
tossed about like confetti

the power of  love
can never be contained in words
expressed in words alone

The Talented Mr Hoffman

 Phillip Seymour Hoffmann 1967 - 2014

POETRY JAM
THREE WORD WEDNESDAY
DVERSE OLN

you died
passive pose
a needle
in your arm

in tears of grief

a great talent
we wont see again
lost to us

dear Lord we leave thee

the pain
accelerated
drove you
to blanket  the flames

hearts cry to thee

with white poppy powder
a  rogue fuel -lethal potential
igniting a raging inferno

O Saviour dear

Rest thou softly -  softly here

no way to die
no way to live
may you now
rest at last
rest in peace

Rest thou softly -softly here
