we would bop
till we dropped
to them live
before they were known
i
so young
so stupid
so happy
so unhappy
all at once
always in love
with someone
who would break
my heart
instantaneously recovering
to do it all over again
it was always summer
back then
the road ahead was endless
now at the pointy end of life 'reminiscing'
gives me a fleeting scent
of that youthful time
like a pressed rose
lying between the pages of a book
never opened year in year out
i will always remember
the worker's cottage with the red door
sunflowers out the front
the squeaking gate
the leaky roof
the choko vine covering the hills hoist
all the parties and hilarity
that took place behind those walls
all memories
sparked by a song
making me a little sad
it has gone
they have gone
it all went so quickly
tis a blessing to be loved
by a four legged beastie
a great comfort in lonely times
often the only one
always happy to see you
when you arrive home knackered
from a day on the treadmill
some folk are slow to realise the devotion of a loyal friend
A Must Read Book for All. Proceeds go to the Luke Batty Foundation.
Rosie Batty has brought an awareness of Domestic Violence to the forefront of a nation. Domestic Violence has reached epidemic proportions in Australia . In her book , she honours the memory of her son Luke, who was murdered in broad daylight at a school cricket match by his father. She is now dedicating her life to ensuring respect and justice for woman and children, by bringing about changes in the legal system, and by changing endemic cultural negatives towards women, in this country.
The courage of this mother to turn a brutal and horrific incident into a positive is beyond belief. This exceptional woman was voted Australian of The Year in 2015.
For Rosie and Luke
it could happen
to any of us
your story belongs
to all of us
in your immense grief
you decided
to put a stop to it
to keep alive the memory
of your beautiful son
to help all abused women
and children
change will take generations
we must all keep fighting for it
we want to be known as a country
that respects and values women

"If music be the food of love
sing on till I am fill'd with joy"
food of love
food for the soul
a moment's release
from an uncaring world
a world filled with sorrow
awash with tears
a small thread of connection
to the Divine
in the frenzy of the yuletide season
eager to get away for the hols
one of us slipped away
almost unnoticed on the 26th Dec
at the age of 94
dear berowne, his humour and challenging quizzes

poll is a rough diamond
rex is a loner
broken down and dying
it takes a journey to darwin
in a cab
in search of a lethal injection
to end it all
for rex to realise
that poll is important to him
that loves counts for something
