Little River Band - Reminiscing
i remember
them so well
friday nights
we would bop
till we dropped
to them live
before they were known
i
so young
so stupid
so happy
so unhappy
all at once
always in love
with someone
who would break
my heart
instantaneously recovering
to do it all over again
it was always summer
back then
the road ahead was endless
now at the pointy end of life
'reminiscing'
gives me a fleeting scent
of that youthful time
like a pressed rose
lying between the pages of a book
never opened year in year out
i will always remember
the worker's cottage with the red door
sunflowers out the front
the squeaking gate
the leaky roof
the choko vine covering the hills hoist
all the parties and hilarity
that took place behind those walls
all memories
sparked by a song
making me a little sad
it has gone
they have gone
it all went so quickly

Oh Rall, this is such a beautifully poignant piece and I can resonate so well with it. Thank you so much for participating at Prompt Nights. Have a wonderful week ahead :D
ReplyDeleteLots of love,
Sanaa
Youth is a fleeting thing - shame we realise that as we age..and your line -' so happy so unhappy all at once' describes it perfectly..with age that unhappy gets heavier and heavier and maybe we ignore the counterbalance of happy things (well this reader anyway)
ReplyDeleteIts amazing how music can bring back so many vivid memories
ReplyDeleteThis is such a beautiful piece. Loved the style and the picture it painted.
ReplyDelete"all memories
ReplyDeletesparked by a song" Those songs bring it back so vividly.
