was happy then
less complicated
less frantic
people were nicer
and i threw it all away
in search of adventure
a brave new world
bedazzled by reading too many books
intent on becoming an interesting person
TOBY
MY ONE AND ONLY DOG
toby the big black labrador
was special
a baby sitter
a clown
a play mate
who spent a lot of time
wearing an indian head dress
playing cowboy and indians
in a teepee with kids
a good guard dog as well
everyone loved him
except the corner shop owner
who used to place a can of dog food
on top of the newpapers
to keep them from blowing away
our smart toby knew the contents of that can
they chased him
but could never catch him
people use to laughingly cheer him on
shouting" Go Toby"
he was a sort of celebrity
and then came the day
because of a change in circumstances
went to live overseas
we had to give him away
to another family
and so time passed
we returned after a couple of years to the same address
and one day he arrived on our doorstep
he had walked for miles to find us
to come home.
my heart broke
when we had to return him
could never replace him
never did

not a
calm sea at all
that chick is not wearing
any clothes seagulls are going
beserk
she loved tino's voice
an old fashion choice
recipe for a happy life
get yourself a good french wife
my memere was one
she had lots of fun
grandpa was lucky
he thought she was great
the food she served him
he ate and ate
she taught me how to make
mayonnaise
long before it became a craze
she knew about things
like creaming elbows
having nice skin and massaging toes
she dabbed grandpas temples
with eau de cologne
something he liked that made him moan
she sang tino rossi songs to her canary
that sweet little yellow bird
flitting round like a fairy
i miss them both so very much
life's not the same without their touch
we all fought so hard
we've still a long way to go
we shall overcome
the song we sang in those days
still remember all the words
we are oldies now
it's up to the younger ones
to keep it going
they must not yield to tyrants
fight on fight for our freedom
you may well ask
everything's ambiguous
in this bleak not so brave
new world
get use to it or run and hide
and hopefully you'll find
the owl and the pussy cat
they're just fine
in the land where the bong tree grows
with curly locks curly locks
relent and be mine
she does not wash dishes nor yet feed the swine
best not ever look behind
lot's wife did and you will find
a pillar of salt so ruinous to health
sprinkled with orange flecked detritus
rotting in wealth
a pervasive presidential stench
wreaking havoc and destruction
on the earth
an evil creature of no worth
.
YESTERDAY
all our troubles seemsd so faraway
fun times
a safer time
lots of adventures
life more managable
more opportunities
new found freedom for the gels
we had the best of it
TODAY
a different story
a dangerous world
wars amd strife
life expensive
out of control
the rich get richer
the poor get poorer
crime and terrorist acts
we never had before
down under
age and its heavy burden
finally catches up
two old debilitated crocs now
out of touch
fading fast
grateful
for food shelter and the basics
grateful
for a good climate
grateful
for the best art show in town (nature}
grateful
for page connection with like minded souls (poets)
grateful
for the kindness of angels (strangers)
TOMORROW
no one knows
with mr maniac
running the show
the future doesn't look good
finding and meeting mr man on the moon
is not a solution

a time past
we can't lunch
without them
nowadays
party share cold crisp fried clock hand brown warm safe enough hard
enough of these
cold crisp fried
burnt brown thoughts
this is a hard time
if only
she could turn back
the hands of the clock
sharing warm
fun party times
a safe time

this poem
GOOD FRIDAY
april is
the cruellest month
in TS Eliot's
wasteland
the crucifixion
of Our Lord
2000 years ago
was certainly cruel
a high price paid
for our salvation
always remembered
this momentous event
of sadness and tears of grief
is observed religiously
in spring time
lilac time
by christians living
in the northern hemisphere
the weather being more befitting
down under
where the leaves are turning brown
in nature's sad season of our autumn
In tears of grief, dear Lord, we leave Thee,
Hearts cry to Thee, O Saviour dear,
Lie Thou softly, softly here.
Rest Thy worn and bruised Body,
At Thy grave, O Jesu blest.
May the sinner, worn with weeping,
Comfort find in Thy dear keeping,
And the weary soul find rest.
Sleep in peace,
Sleep Thou in the Father's
breast
What's Going On?
Truth?
no way
the world is ailing
while the demon
spouts and thrives on lies
a pestilence perpetrated
by the bible wielding blow fly
making sacrilegious claims
to Christianity
for political purposes
for storing up riches
wreaking suffering and havoc
on the world
evil will not last
the gates of mar a lago
will not prevail against us
TANKA
beneath the surface
of extreme arrogance lies
a deranged nut case
causing death and destruction
to satisfy his ego
how can this happen
they should teach history in schools
they've been here before
wreaking havoc and mayhem
weak men cowards with issues
fools abound alright
even his hair takes refuge
a dangerous time
he puts the world in peril
we suffer because of him
