A Fortunate Life

to be fair
her mother did try to warn
her fiery intractable daughter

she did try to explain
the benefits of fluttering eyelashes
stroking a man's ego
being demure
performing the centuries old dance
that women had to perfect
in order to survive

they can't possibly  all be that stupid
the young hot head fired back
the returned exasperated gaze of experience
suggested otherwise

the girl ignored the advice
along with all the other well meaning advice
kept on crashing into walls
doing things her way
incredible adventures
hit and miss

some said she was brave
in reality she was just naive
a lot of her 'friends' said stupid
motivated by envy but never to her face

yes - her life
a trial and error escapade
dire warnings were given
of an unenviable future
without the societal position she was supposed to attain
for her security and happiness

and thus
as she sits pondering the past -
years later
gazing at a huge bunch of white chrysanthemums
mixed with purple orchids
soft lit by the fire on this cold winter's night
willing herself to slide out from underneath her large fur rug
to go  make a hot chocolate

she gives thanks
to the Divine presence who never abandoned her

she gives thanks
that she took the path less travelled
that she has the luxury of time to create to think to write
that she  survives
that her enemies are pissed off because she does
that she sleeps soundly without pills
that she enjoys good health
that she lives by the sea
that she lives on the plains
that one person cares deeply about her and prays for her

THIS WEEK'S WORDS come from "Five Chinese Verses" by Wendy Xu:

sweltering cooling toe without gaze gate
forward dimming glint text while taste

for a while
it was sweltering
then cooling
dimming to a feint glint
finally a cold gaze

the final straw
a nasty text
leaving a bitter taste
painful as an ingrown toe nail

without regret
the gate stays shut
it's time to move forward

Midweek Motif - MLMM

they must exist
but
i don't know any real humans

i've read about them in books
seen them in movies
seen them being interviewed on tv

i am fascinated by the concept of kindness
that seems to be extended to so many
on social media
(people have hundreds of close friends)
but in real life it has eluded me
and frankly i don't see much of it
as i go about my daily life

i can only conclude aliens (cruel ones)
inhabit this planet

Wordle # 201 - MLMM

drab envy thewles deasil pressurise qualify
correspond counterweight  postpone finite ginger revolve

ginger  thewles
could never be described
as drab

she did not qualify
for the academic class
but this irrelevancy
did not pressurise her
into any form of serious study

besides
she was the envy
of all the girls
and the boys revolved
around her deasil like
all moths to a flame

she corresponded with
a counterweight minor royal from transylvania
who wanted to marry her

she quite liked the idea of being a princess
but   postponed meeting him
because he did not like cats

the love of her life was her cat donald

she knew her beauty was finite
so she decided to become a model
cash up buy lots of real estate
and with her short career over
she could always become
president of the USA

right hair colour
no credentials
it was in the bag

Curl Curl

i remember
those summer days at curl curl
you left too soon

i remember
you being dumped by the waves
shrieking with laughter

those summer days at curl curl
were a wonderful time in my life
i miss them so much

you left too soon
the sun does not shine as brightly
since you departed

love embroidery

Bayeux tapestry( 900 years old ) depicting the Norman invasion, is actually an embroidery, 230 feet long.  It took approx 10 years to make, supposedly by  medieval nuns, taking thousands of hours

planning on making a bayeux tapestry?
no
not this year

intending to mow paddocks
mend a broken fence
pare down my vhs collection
instead

My First Poem

SPRING

spring is coming
spring is coming
flowers have come to life
birds are singing
church bells ringing
flowers smelling like
sweet scented spice

i got a tick
good work - no
shows promise - no
well done - no
signs of a blossoming poet here  - no
zilcho
just a red tick

and my little 9 year old heart
sank like a stone
i never wrote another
until thirty years later

Pale Moon

pale winter moon
in the sadness
of a cold late afternoon
the pool is empty
the gulls fight over scraps
the sky is fading pink
and now i must wait
wait until october
