So long, farewell
Auf widersehen goodbye
Adieu adieu to you and you and you
It's all too much
can't take it anymore
I'm leaving now
and heading out the door
I'm glad to go I cannot tell a lie
I flit I float I flit I flit I fly
and ask myself oh why
oh why oh why
So long , adieu
Auf widersehen goodbye
I feel von trapped mit creetchas ich bin vile
I leave and heave a sigh and say goodbye
Goooooood.....Byyyyyyye
Flop
Plop
Kaputski
PROMPT: You are especially encouraged to draw on your own culture of folk lore ,language mythology and personal experience to give your character a distinctive identity and voice

Rall, you've managed to make me hear The Sound of Music in an entirely different way! Brilliant. I loved the theatricality of this, with its mixture of languages, exaggerated farewells and increasingly absurd repetitions.
ReplyDeleteYour poem has a wonderfully irreverent rhythm, and I can imagine it being performed with considerable gusto, much like when I got up to mayhem with a free jazz band in a bear pit of a pub.
The illustration is hilarious and a tightly intertwined companion to the poem. When I saw the monstrous apparition attempting to terrify someone who's already had enough of life's bullshit, I initially thought you were personifying Defiance or Exasperation.
Then it struck me: you've given us Can't Be Arsed! A splendid abstraction, and one that goes beyond resistance to utter indifference. Then, after all those extravagant farewells, we get “Flop / Plop / Kaputski”. A magnificently absurd ending.
Thanks for taking the prompt somewhere entirely unexpected. Dennis
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it.
