Three Word Wednesday

no doubt about
the cunning of nazis
taking degeneracy
to an all time pinnacle

the emaciated victims
of the  ovens a testament
to the murder and mayhem
of the holocaust

so why ban david irving
who's afraid of the big bad wolf ?
millions died for freedom
freedom of speech and thought

only a totalitarian state
tells its citizens
what to think and say

Let It Go

midweek motif poets united
poetry jam

you called

we go back years
a friendship
framed by a million
telephone conversations
une amie d'enfance

we battled through
trials and tribulations
of teenage angst
of student life
of broken hearts
of work life
of children
of marriage
of divorce

you said
you were calling
after all these years
because
you found my number
at the bottom of a drawer

je te dis
je prefere la politesse
la gentillesse des etrangeres

(i'm telling you i prefer good manners
the kindness of strangers)

Haiku Heaven 11 and Sunday Scribblings

stripes

just an angry mob
casting poor piglet aside
he still has his stripes

it is difficult
to be a striped vested
modern day piglet
with non pc thoughts
avant-garde and outpoken

off to live in the land
of the bong trees
chez owl and pussy cat
and other odd bods

Bawdy Bard Smatterings

Poets United

art thou but
A dagger of the mind,
A false creation
Proceeding from the heat-oppressed brain?
(Macbeth)

Take you me for a sponge ,my Lord ?
 ( Hamlet )

There are a sort of men whose visages
Do cream and mantle like a standing pond
And do a wilful stillness entertain
With purpose to be dressed in an opinion
Of  wisdom, gravity, profound conceit

( Merchant of Venice )

I am one sir, that comes to tell you your daughter and the moor are now making the beast with two backs
(Othello)

Hell is empty. And all the devils are here.
(The Tempest)

The fool doth think he is wise, but the wise man doth know himself to be a fool.
(As You Like It )

Tis in my memory lock'd
And you yourself shall keep the key to it

( Hamlet)

The wren goes to't,and the small gilded fly does lecher in my sight. Let copulation thrive.
(King Lear)

As flies to wanton boys
are we to gods
They kill us for their sport
(King Lear)

Birthday Surprise

poets united mid week motif

difficult to find a present
for the birthday boy
likes elephants
likes sex

so we thought of an elephant ride
no - too rigorous -  fraught with danger

likes onions
likes sex
no- too emotional

likes morris dancing
likes sex
no - too rigorous -  fraught with danger

so we settled on the cake

Narcissism

three word wednesday

there could be never enough
adulation
he was an authentic narcissus
with a phobia about missing out
on those few minnows which had
escaped the net cast wide

the crowd was
blinded by the dazzling sun which shone
from his dark nether regions
and as he enlisted the help of followers
to blow his horn
a blast could be heard all over the land
which would knock purple out of a rainbow

rendition of the rainbow minus the purple

Triolet

poetry jam

it's too late baby it's too late
stuck in the middle with you
should never have gone on that date
it's too late baby it's too late
poor puss poor puss this is your fate
to be old owl's  play thing-what's new
it's too late baby it's too late
stuck in the middle with you

Foreplay with Poets United

poets united

she thought it was cute
at the very beginning
now she's changed her mind

she tried to teach him
how to stay up late-this was
quite the big mistake

what is her problem
playing violin in bed
is so romantic

it's not a french horn
i could understand  her mood
if that were the case

some women are strange
how many guys can play the
violin so well

For The Weekend

Sijo

celebrating the northern Spring, they wear pink ties

bonny lads they certainly are-the splendid King Singers

Intrepid Explorer

poets united
mid week motif

he always knew
he was meant for something else

sometimes he missed the garden
viewing the bottom of the world
from fine wine in a gazebo

never quite got the hang
of riding camels
or the 4am call to prayer

his thirst for adventure
overrides all
an explorer of life

the giggles and Ooooos
from a southern surf
will sustain him in the
sand dunes of his new life

Qu'ils mangent de la brioche

3 WW
poetry jam

they portrayed her like this
smug and indulgent
in fact
she was devout and kind
demonised by her enemies

"let them eat cake"
she did not say
to the starving peasants

qu'ils mangent de la brioche
(let them eat brioche)
she did say

brioche is egg based bread
highly nutritious
by french law to be kept at the same price
as the cheapest bread

the bakers were not making enough profit
so kept brioche in short supply
deliberately contributing to the famine

saying goodbye to her children
before her public execution

the crowd yelled for more
as her bloodied head rolled round in the dirt
to this day her name still mud
her name still wrongly synonymous
with cruelty and lack of compassion

Marie Antoinette Last Queen of France
