she wore that locket
for years after he had left
like a graft on her skin
snorkelling in a rockpool
somewhere in the south pacific
the clasp unlocked slipped from her neck
swirling falling through shafts of sunlight
to a watery grave on its way to
a rendez vous with her dead marriage
years later she found herself once again
diving in the same spot
studying the minute transparent seahorses
saw a gold glint wedged in the rocks
on closer examination it was her locket
leaving it there without hesitation
she surfaced immediately
and swam as fast as she could to the shore
ah..life's miracle...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful little story, i enjoyed reading it!
ReplyDeleteFantastic story and I so hope it is true!
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of idiot swims with jewellery on? Yep...you've guessed it:)
Deleteha. i like her response
ReplyDeleteto swim away from it...its a bit unexpected
but wise not to pick some things back up
I had to add a line
Delete'leaving it there'
because without it I don't think anyone would have understood the poem
Hope your are not upsetting anymore book shop owners by cavorting with college gals in their stores:)
Well, you could have picked it up and flogged it. I mean, jewelry can be valuable. What a waste. It wasn't the "One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them", was it?
ReplyDeleteThis poem is beyond a Dodo bird who lives in a Mauritian swamp. Thank you for visiting anyway. Not and never have been a Tolkien fan.
DeleteHuum .... if she had retrieved and the sold the locket the past would have been put behind her. Now she knows where it is and is troubled by its presence, the past is not laid to rest.
DeleteSheer doddlepoddle psychology...you are so materialistic:)
DeleteThat was spiritual.
DeleteIncredible story indeed but a bit eerie too!
ReplyDeleteI, on the other hand, am disappointed that she did not take the locket back...considering it some kind of fate that the found what had been lost! I enjoyed this poem, Rallentanda.
ReplyDeleteSets the reader up and then swims off in a different direction.
ReplyDeleteTsk ...Sneaky !
