Renga

Carpe Diem Haiku Kai

moonrise
holding their hands on their knees
evening at a house
Basho
strains of melody come from
behind the paper thin walls

a balmy night
in spring - white cherry blossoms
perfuming the breeze
the outline of her kimono
shimmering in the moonlight

the cricket chorus chirps
disturbing sleeping old frogs
dragonflies dance
lacey wings flit through tall reeds
beneath the pale yellow moon

the rustle of silk
colour of persimmon moves
like ripples on the water
he glides along like a prince
brushing her fingers with his sash

For The Weekend

Mindlovemisery's Menagerie

Shadorma

time flies by
wasting all those years
too late now

enjoy life
be grateful for the regrets
means you've had a life

Too Late

3WW
misery privilege stale

it is beyond stale
that non friendship
of ours
which ceased along
with my value
when i tossed away
my life of privilege

childhood
school
our youth
families
the connection meant
nothing to you

took a while to absorb
the misery and truth
of this reality

i wont pretend
it still does not rattle me sometimes
when i contemplate the ruthlessness
of the chattering classes

i did hear about your situation
broadcast on the news
it gave me no pleasure

i felt sorry for you
being the gossip centrepiece
of the ladies who lunch circle
knowing how much that life
means to you with its emphasis
on respectability and " doing well"

no more names to drop now
your address book
will be  depleted
doors will slam shut

doubtless the reason
you have magically
discovered my telephone number again
after all these decades

sorry....too late

Metamorphosis

Mid Week Motif P.U

only in oz
would these totally indestructible
weeds be called farmers friends
resistant to everything
bane of my existence
demon of the gardening world

after weeding the gardener
is transformed from head to toe
into a spiny ant eater

the two pronged thorns
cling to everything
even finding their way into
covered nooks and crannies

it seems
kafka is alive and well
in a desert garden
on the liverpool plains

Happiness

Susan's mid week motif P U

a happy life

a bouquet of happy moments
afforded by
the magnificence of nature
the sea and sand
swimming

colours of fruit and flowers
music books movies
creative expression
giggles
side splitting laughter
just about everything
in life is wonderful

making someone's day
making someone smile
generosity in every way
practically and spiritually

giving is the key
to happiness
and loving you
(of course:)

 Midweek Motif  PU

"When a wave of love takes over a human being...such an exaltation takes him that he knows
that he has put his finger on the pulse of the great secret and the great answer"
  Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings

Tuesday Afternoon

i call it my own
this quiet little harbour beach
where i sit watching bobbing boats
on the glassy waves
to soothe my frayed nerves
to breathe the sea air
at the end
of a grey autumn day

ukelele  dad strums  softly
to his bonny girl
crawling along the sand
squealing with delight
at everything
she sees and touches

and dad
well dad is just over the moon
showering his sweet angel
with  treasures that matter
lucky kid

made my day

Honouring Our Elderly 21st Century Style

Mid Week Motif

they can barely feed themselves
let alone a dog or cat
on a meagre pittance
thankfully body warmth replaces the heating
they cannot afford

no point in getting all sentimental about
the sacrifices they made for a better world
ok a bit of political posturing every now and again
just to hide the reality of our heartless jungle society

these elderly people are useless commodities
just taking up precious space and resources
it is not pc to state this for we need to pretend
we  have progressed since the time of the savage

if only we could do the old inuit trick
deposit them on an ice floe which drifts out to sea
(especially all those who cannot fund their retirement)

we could wave goodbye in tears at the shore line
with full media coverage and say how sad it all is ...but life goes on
( for us anyway)

we are working on it

The Vegemite Kid

mindlovemisery's menagerie
memories # 105

everyone called him the vegemite kid
glossy black hair and rosy cheeks
a very cute 7 year old

at breakfast
his father was still at home
unusual because he normally left for the office  early
he was reading the newspaper circling bits
with a pencil
his mother looked concerned
they talked in muffled urgent tones

meanwhile
at school the boy next to him
asked for a page from his exercise book
because he had nothing to write on

vegemite kid burst into tears
he said he could not give him a page
because his father had lost his job

the bodies are back grim stories are told
winter has cast a pall you see

some considered barbaric - red in bold
topsy turvey the seasons be

life goes on so we forget quickly
it's tough surviving -  back to the fold
winter has cast a pall  you see

we'll still take holidays there yippee
follow the sun cheap tickets are sold
topsy turvery the seasons be
winter has cast a pall  you see
