Friday Writings 162#...Poets and Storytellers United...Joy in Chaos

in a world of chaos
in a world of horror
glimmers of joy
can be found everywhere
like lilies amongst the thorns

in the random acts of  kindness
of strangers
in the kindness and love
of those whom we will never meet
whose words give us hope
in the beauty of nature
in the love of our furry friends

they can't take that away from us
good will triumph over evil
it may take a while

SUNDAY January 26th 2025 ...AUSTRALIA DAY

Robbie Cheadle's Spin The Bottle....Haiga

 o we need some joy
a fun night with fine talent
the crowd sing along

WHATS GOING ON....DEEPEST JANUARY

sydney harbour shines
a dazzle of smiles and fireworks
a chorus of thousands sing along
a night to remember
in my deepest january

no matter what
the 26th will  offer
a welcome distraction
momentarily
from depressing world events
of dark despair in deepest january
australia day a special day
for aussies in summer to celebrate
a reminder of how lucky we are
(for now anyway)
however
there is a growing force
who oppose the name of this day
and want to change the date

so for now the day stays
on the deepest darkest january date
for the indigenous people

Translation: snags on the barbie and eskies full of coldies
sausages on a barbecue and cooling containers full of cold beers
thongs are flip flops (footwear )
we have not resorted to throwing underwear as a sport ( not yet anyway:)

sickie is a paid day off from work (sick leave.)

aussie battlers
are known
for their keen sense
of workers' rights
to take sickies
also
for their creative approach
to problem solving
a fair go for everyone
keeps everyone happy

Friday Writings # 161...Brain Rot

consequences

of an unthinking society
robots manipulated
by media and technology

consequences

a grinning demented old man
riddled with brain rot
sitting in the whitehouse
humming
south of the border
down mexico way

just in case
brain rot is contagious
no kissing

Moonwash Musings

CINQUAIN

here comes
a poltergeist
as a new president
in an uneasy world right now
hang on

take care
danger ahead
democracy could die
you all fought so hard for it once
good luck

LAX....FOWC ..FRIDAY WRITINGS # 160...LOW BATTERY

the schools

are lax these days

kids have no respect for rules

discipline is necessary

at home

thus are
the consequences
you get people voting for
an imbecile like this
for president

a president
who thinks the matterhorn
is in canada

once
her beacon
stood high
shining bright
now on low battery
flickering
almost out

too true
could not happen
in a previous time
changes must be made
to stop convicted felons
becoming president

Vaughan Williams: English Folk Song Suite: 1. March: Seventeen come Sunday

STIRRING STUFF... QUINTESSENTIALLY ENGLISH

FOR FRIDAY WRITING # 159
POETS AND STORYTELLERS UNITED

thank you
for this darling
our hearts remember you
for your musical genius
always

THE HEART REMEMBERS... RALPH VAUGHAN WILLIAMS (1872 - 1958)

the english folk song suite
evokes images of
sticky puddings
spotted dick
toad in the hole
bubble and squeak
peaches and cream complexions
fair hair'd  blue eyed lasses named
millicent and harriet
hooray henrys in bowler hats
with furled umbrellas
stiff upper lips
cricket on the village green
knitted teapot covers and cosy pubs
a  world long gone

What's Going On...The Heart Remembers

the heart remembers
your excitement
at your  first visit to a supermarket
wheeling a trolley made you feel
like a rich woman you said

the heart remembers
the little beggar boy who gave me
a plaited leather bracelet as a gift
i still have it

the heart remembers
the joy on your face
eating your first ice cream
at the age of fifty

the heart remembers
being a fairy godmother
to you all
making your lives easier
making you happy

it was a privilege and an honour

Friday Writings...# 158 ..Poets and Storytellers United

my life

is far too busy

no matter how i try

to simplify it

people dream

 of taking holidays

of visiting exotic places

of attending interesting events

i dream

of drinking a cup of tea

while it is still hot

it has been so long

What's Going On

a lonely lass lived by the sea

her great comfort and joy

 and all of it free

her friend ronnie rosella

knew how to live

gave her advice

found it pleasing to give

humans are tricky

it has to be said

flowers bring beauty

not tears or dread

take pleasure in animals

a gift from God above

we can learn a lot from them

they know how to love

CINQUAIN

this poem

is written for

darling marmalade boy

without whom my life would have been

empty
