" The Messiah "

A tiny local church
choir sings
valiant effort for
such a lofty work
touching
quavering scratchy voices
earnest sincere
in many ways more moving
because of the struggle
than polished expertise

old gent offers us 2 chairs
sweet
A tear rolls down my cheek at
"For unto us a child is born"
the old Parson seems pleased
anyone has turned up at all

INTERVAL

"I've got to get some money from you "
"Oh, a donation... Certainly!"
Hand him ten
"No, thirty dollars "
Jaws drop to the floor
" These things aren't free you know"
and I think of the Jewish child
lying in rags in a manger
and I weep again

  2. How times change...
(Thanks for your Napple Notes ditty - reminded me of a cross between playing Postman's Knock, and a traditional 'Knook knock who's there?' joke. LOL. Have a good Christmas, Blogpal.)

  3. You certainly captured the duality of the season - innocence and avarice. Yet we carry on with hopeful heart and open kindness. Wishing you the blessings of the season. Gay @beachanny

  4. Didn't the prince of Peace throw the money lenders out of his Father's house? Just sayin...Apparently there's a price for everything these days.

  5. The Church has become a business like any other and I think they've cottoned on that donations don't cut it anymore!

  6. My understanding of Christianity certainly differs from that of the organised and wealthy Christian Churches. They have very conveniently skipped over the 'eye of the needle' parable.
