After being knocked out
in the third round
crushed to a squishy pulp
on life support for six months
POW has recovered somewhat
and is back almost fighting fit
If only on crutches:)

PROMPT:16
"What are those?"
"Leech marks," he said " From when I was in New Guinea. They crawl inside your army boots while you're hiking throught the swamps. At night, when you take your socks off they're stuck there, fat, with blood. You sprinkle salt on them and then they die, but you still have to dig them out with a hot knife."...
"Did it hurt?"
" Of course it hurt," he said taking a sip from the jug." Sometimes you can't worry about hurt. Sometimes you worry only about getting where you have to go."

Leave the link to your poem in the comment section next Wednesday. ( Australian Time ). Looking forward to reading your poems.
Cheers and watch out for the postman!
Rall (who lives in your tomorrow.)
Ooer! Explain for an old lady please - is the prompt 'Leeches', or merely the phrase 'What are those? I like to get things straight...
ReplyDeleteWhat a surprise! So, you're trying to scare us into action, eh; I wonder what may transpire? I shall try and coax 'George' out of hibernation!
ReplyDeleteWoo-Hoo! Welcome back, Rall! I'm feeling a bit rusty. This might be just what the doctor ordered!
ReplyDeleteHurrah for the POW's return. This one will require some mulling.
ReplyDeleteBtw, I've been watching David Attenborough's doc on lizards, and Australian fauna was featured prominently. I've become quite taken with the sleepy lizard (or shingleback). They're quite amazing creatures, mating sometimes for life and bearing live young. Maybe there's a prompt in there somewhere.
The shingle back lizard prompt eh? You're stretching the friendship Francis:)
ReplyDeleteIt's the whole section Jinks...or whichever bit that takes your fancy...You're representing the swashbuckling lil ole lady brigade here, so don't let them down with daft questions:)
Dust yourself down Marianne and start writing again:)
You'll have to keep a stricter eye on George, Derrick. When he is absent he's up to no good!
PS
This is a bit of a challenging prompt but that's why POW is here.
It's good to see you all back again. I'm not going to say I missed you because it will go to your head and then you'll go all sloppy on me and start writing treacle and blancmange, not that there is not a place for such things, but this is not one of them (unless I change my mind:)
Hmmm...maybe blancmange and treacle should be a prompt by itself one day? Thanks for the invite. This will take some thought, indeed! ☼
ReplyDeleteMaybe lightverse. It would be a good spoof. Hopefully there will be lots of light madness and laughter on this site but I thought I would begin with a difficult one, just to give the blood vessels a work out!
ReplyDeleteWell, nothing like a resurrection to make you forget the Biblical flooding you've got going down there. It's been a while since I received a proper prompting and this is a good one. Long Live POW!
ReplyDeleteIt would take a second coming to resurrect POW
