Justice

Mid Week Motif : 3 WW
Justice
we learn to live
with an approximation of it
it becomes our second skin
on the first stumble in animal farm ( school )
it does not take long for a child to learn
rules bend for some and not others
we learn to ally ourselves
to the winning team
for our own well being
shifting alliance at the first signs
of a change in pecking order
sticking with the strength
we know the foolish one
who shouts that the glorious emperor
is in fact cavorting in his birthday suit
will be alienated
inconvenient truth is not welcome
we go to church temple mosque
wear a religion tag
speak of spirituality peace and love
yet discriminate alienate and
step over the beggar who waits outside
we speak of justice for all
when what we really mean
is justice for people like us
'all' can wait for later
and of course any exposee of the truth
is just unpleasant bitter rhetoric
'sit down you're rocking the boat'

School Days
Mindlovemisery's Menagerie Week 58

benediction notebook marbles frayed courage orphan
weave raven hiraeth scrape misfit rummage

looking like
an orphan annie misfit
scraped knees
frayed weave on her uniform
a scrunched school hat
she rummaged in her pockets
dropping marbles and a notebook
on the chapel floor during Benediction
disturbing the black raven figures
chanting gregorian in their prieres dieu
lost in a hiraeth of medieval times
in the soft glow of candle light
they gave her the courage of her convictions
and unwittingly instilled a rebelliousness within
that she wore like the badge on her blazer pocket
all through her life

Rorschach Test

Mindlovemisery's Menagerie
i see
twin lions and sharks
pushed together
by pompadour wigged ladies
from the french court
with ripped hems
underneath are two forlorn figures
sitting back to back
flanked by couples in embrace
tango dancing
two soft sea dog faces
beam out like the moon

yes i already know
je suis folle:)

Love On A Bus Ride
3WW: Imaginary Garden With Real Toads
i still remember them
from decades ago
before the time of
smart phones and computers
a middle aged couple
professional office types
on my bus ride to work
she was visibly upset
not crying
but had that look
of impending doom
stamped
across her beautiful face
was she about to be fired
or was she desperately awaiting
the grim reaper's imminent verdict
at her doctor's appointment
sensing her suffering
he put his arm around her
tenderly lifted her hand to his lips
closed his eyes
his face a map of pain
he held her tight
they sat in silence
the passengers
were unusually hushed
that cold winter's morning
as if they were in church
i held back the smarting tears
not for them
but for myself
it was then i knew
i would never be loved
like that

The Enlightenment
Mid Week Motif

1689 - 1755
forerunner of the' enlightenment' period
first sociologist
precursor to the french revolution
division of powers and end to the monarchy
liberte equalite fraternite
a catholic who believed that
people should think for themselves
his work stamped ' forbidden'
placed on the index

meanwhile
centuries later

down under
we have our own napoleon
a prime minister who claims
he is not a suppository
of all knowledge
the quintessential diplomat
who threatens to shirtfront putin

who says indigenous poverty
is a life style choice

shuts the doors to refugees

a half baked catholic
not known for his cerebral acuity

who left the seminary when he
experienced a flash of enlightenment
of how much money was to be made
in the outside world

(making a difference) is
the euphemistic phrase he used i believe

reintroduces royal honours
making prince philip
an australian knight
(now putin wants to be one too)

single handedly
rides his trusty cocky into battle
leading 'team australia '

against society's vulnerable
blue collar battalion
