1689 - 1755
forerunner of the' enlightenment' period
first sociologist
precursor to the french revolution
division of powers and end to the monarchy
liberte equalite fraternite
a catholic who believed that
people should think for themselves
his work stamped ' forbidden'
placed on the index

meanwhile
centuries later

down under
we have our own napoleon
a prime minister who claims
he is not a suppository
of all knowledge
the quintessential diplomat
who threatens to shirtfront putin

who says indigenous poverty
is a life style choice

shuts the doors to refugees

a half baked catholic
not known for his cerebral acuity

who left the seminary when he
experienced a flash of enlightenment
of how much money was to be made
in the outside world

(making a difference) is
the euphemistic phrase he used i believe

reintroduces royal honours
making prince philip
an australian knight
(now putin wants to be one too)

single handedly
rides his trusty cocky into battle
leading 'team australia '

against society's vulnerable
blue collar battalion

Whew, Rall, this took me on an unexpected journey! I was about to say "enlightenment" not The Enlightenment when I noted the enlightenment to a defrocking Abbot that money could be "made out there." Yes, yes. I wonder when he will be enlightened into what the true wealth of the country is, if ever? Your illustrations suggest not any time soon. Thanks for posting this.
ReplyDeleteYou forgot to mention him giving budgies a bad name...and a poor imitator of a chimpanzee when he walks.
ReplyDeleteIndeed...that walk is really something ! Julie Bishop walks like that too!
DeleteI have truly been enlightened by your poem today. Politicians all over the world, seem to sing from the same chorus, preaching greedy dealings and attitudes...We require more wisdom to know how to make lasting changes!
ReplyDeleteEileen
