Mid Week Motif : 3 WW
Justice
we learn to live
with an approximation of it
it becomes our second skin
on the first stumble in animal farm ( school )
it does not take long for a child to learn
rules bend for some and not others
we learn to ally ourselves
to the winning team
for our own well being
shifting alliance at the first signs
of a change in pecking order
sticking with the strength
we know the foolish one
who shouts that the glorious emperor
is in fact cavorting in his birthday suit
will be alienated
inconvenient truth is not welcome
we go to church temple mosque
wear a religion tag
speak of spirituality peace and love
yet discriminate alienate and
step over the beggar who waits outside
we speak of justice for all
when what we really mean
is justice for people like us
'all' can wait for later
and of course any exposee of the truth
is just unpleasant bitter rhetoric
'sit down you're rocking the boat'
Any talent at all at school would mean you were "in" at school no matter how obnoxious. Those without hid!
ReplyDeleteYou meant this for another post I think !
Deleteall we can do is act and live according to our conscience and change ourselves in a positive way...we can never change the world...justice or no justice...
ReplyDeleteI have heard this said, by those who should be our allies. Such is the nature of human tribes.
ReplyDeleteIn exploring justice, I discover that justice is a vague and subjective thing. It is not dispensed fairly. Your poem illustrates this well.

Yet it can leave a bitter taste for a lifetime, can't it?
Excellent poem, Rall. We can follow our hearts and minds. Justice does not truly exist.
ReplyDeleteOH! MY! GOODNESS! You have so completely nailed it! Especially the spouting religion , alienating those who believe differently, and step over the beggar who waits outside. Wowzers, kiddo!
ReplyDeleteYou said bitter truth about getting second skin as justice...and this social model get copied into families justice sometimes...Powerful poem, Rall!
ReplyDeleteyes sometimes it really feels like this you've nailed it with this one.

This is a beautifully deep & profound poem. Loved these lines..! Our first and foremost religion should be of humanity..!
Being human.. we should treat all alike... with love and respect.. compassion speaks volumes for those in need..!
Lots of love,
Sanaa
There can be some 'glitches' and justice may not seem fair to the ordinary folks. Emotions certainly play into family relationships. Great lines Rall!
ReplyDeleteHank
people speak of spirituality and love, but no one means the same thing about those two words

How true, Rall, we make our own personal sense of justice as elastic as suits our circumstances... How ridiculously simple is it to live by the rule: "And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise."
