Sunday Scribblings 2
Carpe Diem Haiku Kai
we walk on by without compassion
we accept it as part of the landscape
or get the council to move them on
eyesores not welcome here
never thinking
therefore but for the grace of God
go i
never thinking
so many of these eyesores
fell by the wayside through
no fault of their own
our consumerism
wicked waste
heartlessness
greed
will destroy us
we deserve it
how many times
can the phoenix keep on rising
from the ashes

ReplyDeleteWhere are we going? And why?
Why is an easy answer...
ReplyDeleteThe entirety of society is indoctrinated in the belief that we cannot possibly be considered successful or worthy of respect unless we have all the trappings of comfort and wealth. It does not matter how one acquires it. The greatest asset in life is material wealth.Everything in our society is geared to this aspiration Our natural resources are depleted in building everything bigger instead of recycling and creating beautiful and better. There is a decline in the standard of education, literature and the arts signifying a moral and artistic impoverishment, all indicators of a crumbling civilisation. There is little evidence of Christian ethic present in our social institutions including religious institutions who align themselves with Christian ethic and its teachings.
Where are we going? Up polluted waterways (shit creek) without a paddle..
I sort of knew the answer but was hoping that I was wrong. It is all very depressing.
DeleteWell there is no point in being depressed because it doesn't help the cause. Just keep on keeping on doing what you can. Besides being a Catholic I am obliged to enjoy my life here on earth . I don't seem to have a problem fufilling that part of the dogma. If you are an atheist Anonymous I would appreciate it if you keep it to yourself...otherwise I will get depressed on your behalf too:)
DeleteGod forbid!
DeletePerhaps the phoenix will rise fully when the past mistakes are acknowledged and people seek to rectify the damage.
ReplyDeleteI suppose some walk by thinking these people are 'less than'..and 'it's their own fault'...others may think thank god it's not me and how easily it could be...that it is a 'normal' part of our landscape whatever we think is perhaps the sad thing..landscape suggests permanence..acceptance...something unshiftable..you move one person out of a doorway and another takes his or her place...the whole world is fucked up really isn't it...i am always glad you make me think and give a voice to the invisible...
ReplyDeleteA good question ... how many times indeed.
ReplyDeletePerhaps we can serve meals or volunteer at shelters...or even stop to share some fast food and conversation?! A thoughtful poem...thanks.
ReplyDeleteNice response Rall
ReplyDeleteVery poignant, Rall, and we need to do more than think about it.
