Sting If I Ever Lose My Faith In You

and we are here
as on a darkling plain
where armies clash by night

some of us are lucky
some of us are not
in the human misery stakes

all of us are let down
at some stage by others
even by those close to us

some have been burnt by placing
complete faith in another
been betrayed and not prepared to risk it again

some take risks  all the time
ending up as a pile of cinders
from overexposure to suffering

some of us will never
understand the life puzzle
and its forever changing
complicated rules

some of us
remove ourselves
from the fray and live
the interior life of a hermit

some of us know kindness
like ghandi
and believe in the goodness of humanity

others never experience it
just read about it
or grasp glimpses of it on the screen
being constantly reassured it exists
but maybe not for you

without faith in God
some of us would have
no-one
nothing
and
no reason
for staying

I have never related to something so much in life!

  3. It's true, all of it. And it makes me sad that we all can't be on the plus side all the time. The luckiest of us have experience that leads us to sustaining faith. I wish I was always cognizant of it, that I never felt lost. I'm thinking of little sayings and memories, poems and songs that I can leave around the house to remind me. Perhaps that's the reason for our cats and dogs too.

  4. "Some of us are lucky. Some of us are not."
You give ample examples of how we can confront our truth. I spent some time recognizing myself in more than one example. My faith has changed from time to time in my life.

  6. Inspiring words here. In truth there are many working very hard to bring about a change. Let us join them.

  7. No matter the disappointment or sadness it is so important to be able to step away from that and carry on as we should not live in the past but enjoy life while we have it. How well you wrote this Rall.

  9. A lot of wisdom and, sadly it seems, a lot of experience in what you say.
