friday night
nibbles and drinks
with the temptations
holiday weekend
australia day
should be great
pretend for a while
things are ok
the air is thick
with sadness more than smoke
something inside of me
tells me things have changed forever
it's the beginning of the end
of life as I have known it
and it's not coming back
no longer a question of buying a ticket
taking off and starting over
some place better
been there everywhere done that
for me there is no better place
there is nowhere to go
poor fellow my country

It does feel like we've reached a tipping point. Here, blizzards that were once six years apart now occur every year. We are ruining our climate and those in power seem to care only about money and power. It's a sad state, but here we are.
ReplyDeleteI'm sending hugs your way. It's pretty much all I have...
And that my dear Bizza is the real treasure and what makes life meaningful...Thank you !
ReplyDeleteYou capture the state of affairs so well
ReplyDeleteDidn’t give Australia Day much thought until migrant neighbour of friend I’m visiting smilingly wished us ‘Happy Australia Day’. I said later to my friend, ‘Oh that’s right, we’re supposed to be celebrating, aren’t we?’ Hard, at present, not to feel doomed.
ReplyDeletewitty piece
ReplyDeletepeace to you.
I feel that sadness across the globe. Yes, everything has changed and there's no going back. If the billion dead wild things have broken my heart all month, how much worse to be on the ground, smelling the smoke. My heart goes out to you, Rall.
ReplyDeleteBest Wishes to Australia. A blessed Sunday to you Rall
ReplyDeleteMuch❤love
The world weeps for Australia. Your words are so touching.
ReplyDeleteI feel the heaviness and the feeling of final change in your poem Take care. Love the Temptations btw
ReplyDeleteSadly humanity is more interested in profits now rather than maintaining a viable Earth that can continue to provide for centuries to come. Foolishly we think we drive the planets existence rather that the other way round. The next few decades will show us how stupid we have been.
ReplyDeleteIndian republic day is on 26th Jan as well.. lets hope for some climate action soon!
ReplyDeleteAre the fire fighters getting to be under control. We in the U.S. are hearing less. You tell it well, like you've been swishing ashes looking for ...
ReplyDelete..
Oh the world seems to have spun our of control. What was is gone and we must find our way to survive our present. In the United States our freedom has been sold and deteriorates with each nasty threat our undeclared dictator speaks.
ReplyDeletewell written. I share you sentiments.
ReplyDelete"it's the beginning of the end
ReplyDeleteof life as I have known it
and it's not coming back"
Exactly how so many of us feel and not just about getting older and other silly insecurities. Not even the Temptations can't be that tempting in these times. Big hug!
Believe it or not, possibly due to censorious attitudes, I grew up without ever hearing that song sung. I learned it from sheet music and, not knowing how it's supposed to sound, played it fast.
