What's Going On

they say
there are
two certainties
in life
death and taxes

there's a third certainty

they say
better to love
than never  to have loved at all
untrue
tis fraught with danger

not for those
delicate poor souls
whose hearts
can be broken
by a puff of light breeze interaction
with humans

Monet said " I must have flowers always and always "

true joy
can only be  found
in things
that don't hurt

flowers-always a joy
Bach..la voix de Dieu
music
art
and never last or least
my beloved cats

Tanka Tuesday Poetry Challenge no 36...Tan - ku

it is  so awful
getting closer to the  time
of the use by date
sixties hot chicks were not made
for a reality trip

well it could be worse
we don't have to wear bras or
corsets thanks to us

she needs to tell
she needs to remember
to bring back the magic
of playing at Villa Saint Michele Fiesole
when everything was a breeze and
seemed easy
all those years ago

now
life's a nest of
broken ghostly dreams
dragged up by
the daily bad news

 TRIOLET....A B a  A a b  A B

Tanka Tuesday Poetry Challenge # 35

FEELING CACTUS ?

A  small battered  card found in an old suitcase..  A reminder of  life as it once was . A different world. A time when one received little cards and flowers if you were feeling cactus.

BUTTERFLY CINQUAIN

absorb
the memories
of youth and robust health
when life was carefree and not plagued
with strife
a time
filled with laughter and lots of fun
freedom and adventure
before the storm
hit hard

afraid of becoming a nuisance and a pain
so play the waiting game

FRIDAY WRiTINGS # 200 POETS AND STORYTELLERS UNITED + The Sunday Whirl # 727

 Never to be forgotten
A magic moment with
America's finest operatic soprano
Kathleen Battle

she was not draped in velvet
or singing filmy jazz
when she made her return to the Metropolitan Opera
at the age of 75 in 2024

she had made a come back scintillating to her tips
revealing her enormous talent
a performance at such an advanced age (unheard of in the operatic field)
to tear strips off those jealous racist bastards
who ended her operatic career in 1994
a tragic loss to the world of opera

she touched the crowd
they clapped and roared for more
they had not forgotten her
and neither will I ever.

W3 # 181.... A BOP POEM...FRIDAY WRITINGS #198...POETS AND STORY TELLERS UNITED

entering a dance competition
fierce rivalry with super talent
how to win
not going to be easy
finding the right partner
and stayin' alive
you should be dancing

there's a lot more
to finding the right partner
she has to be a good dancer as well as a good sort
a great hairstyle and moves are not going to do the trick
uh oh  i think we're on to something here
worth gut punching the air
found her at last...she can dance

dancing dance yep dancing dance
you should be dancing

we glide together effortlessly
the crowd loves us
as a mater of fact i think i love her
we make magic together
getting a  bit distracted here
got to remember the steps
you should be dancing

A BOP POEM

A bop poem has three stanzas and a refrain that repeats after each stanza.  tells a story or explores a problem, a bit like a mini-drama.

  1. First stanza – 6 lines
    Present a problem or situation.
  2. Refrain
A single line that repeats after each stanza. Think of it as the poem’s chorus.
  3. Second stanza – 8 lines
Expand on or explore the problem in more depth.
  4. Refrain
    Repeat the same line.
  5. Third stanza – 6 lines
Show a solution or a failed attempt to solve the problem.
  6. Refrain
    Repeat it one last time.

MLMM MONDAY WORDLE # 446

grim pot polite sad smile shake amusing rough shop throw unique style

grim times
rough leader
impolite
shaking his fist
throwing his weight around
like a B grade tv show host
a unique style of ignorance
shopping around for better deals
the pot calling the kettle black
if he weren't so sad and dangerous
it would be amusing
nothing much to smile at here
just sheer embarrassment and lunacy

FRIDAY WRITINGS # 198 ....POETS AND STORY TELLERS UNITED

..

and when october goes
you'll be
another year older
another libran lovely
humming grace jones
and i've done it again
done it again
done it again

as a birthday present
give yourself a reality check
head out of the clouds
feet on the ground
frolic in the sunshine
for the short  time you have left
enjoy the helen sent petals

librans
enjoy the smiling delightful happy faces
performing this joyous music
enjoy the beautiful  weather
of your birth month
enjoy it all

If music be the the food of love ,play on, give me excess of it provided that it is mutual.

FOR ALL THE LIBRAN POETS

It is said they carry golden hearts because they truly want to make life easier for others. Librans are fair kind and diplomatic often putting other people's happiness before their own. Their elegance and compassion allow them to spread peace in every relationship However they are not perfect and sometimes have been known to misquote Shakespeare using poetic license for their own ends :)

An afterthought.
some of you may not be familiar with the music of Grace Jones.
Voila !

W3 Prompt # 180

BEFORE

AFTER

my sixth sense tells me
the sixth extinction is nigh
if not already here
the destruction of coral reefs
rising sea levels
extinction of animals
devastation of land
climate change
has besieged us
joan d'arc
and jane goodall
are no longer here
to help us
we need to do something
NOW

The sixth extinction on earth is caused by human activity.Greed plays a significant part  because of the pursuit of profit the most important thing above all..Environmental consequences such as habitat destruction, species loss, pollution, deforestation, overexploitation  of resources and climate change result  from this reckless greed. This will eventually lead to the destruction of life on earth.

money is the root of all evil
they forget
a shroud has no pockets
the satanic leaders
who flout the rule of law
set themselves up as dictators
adore power and wealth
they'll get their comeuppance

keep the flame of hope alive
and above all
ACT NOW
in whatever way you can
no matter how small

keep the faith
don't give up
we have been promised that
the gates of hell will not prevail
against us. ( Matthew 16:18)

What's Going On ...Dr Jane Goodall (1934 - 2025 )

When Jane presented the results of her research to Cambridge University academics fell about about clutching their mortarboards scandalised that she had given the chimpanzees names rather than numbers. Hearty uproarious laughter and joy filled the jungle air when she graduated.
her legacy
an overflow of love
compassion and care for the earth
her passing
a great loss to the world
