YESTERDAY
all our troubles seemsd so faraway
fun times
a safer time
lots of adventures
life more managable
more opportunities
new found freedom for the gels
we had the best of it
TODAY
a different story
a dangerous world
wars amd strife
life expensive
out of control
the rich get richer
the poor get poorer
crime and terrorist acts
we never had before
down under
age and its heavy burden
finally catches up
two old debilitated crocs now
out of touch
fading fast
grateful
for food shelter and the basics
grateful
for a good climate
grateful
for the best art show in town (nature}
grateful
for page connection with like minded souls (poets)
grateful
for the kindness of angels (strangers)
TOMORROW
no one knows
with mr maniac
running the show
the future doesn't look good
finding and meeting mr man on the moon
is not a solution

I like the way you described the good 'yesterday' years, especially since you used the "all our troubles seemed so far away" phrase from the Beatles' song! And - yes - tomorrow is hard to picture right now. We have to hope!
ReplyDeleteHa, I resonate with every line, Rall. Especially the gratitude for what we have right now, since who knows what lies ahead? The amazement is nothing he has done so far has caused him to be opposed by those enabling this madness who are just as guilty as he is. How one person is impacting the entire world is wonky.
ReplyDeleteIndeed it is scary. and wonky!
DeleteYes, the Beetles were my first thoughts for yesterday. And Annie for Tomorrow. Couldn't think of a song for Today. Loved your gratitude list.
ReplyDeletemarvin gaye, beatles.... grreat music... that also makes me remember marianne faithful, as tears go by... i feel all those things... and grateful for... everything... especially as you spoke... who knows where the time goes... that's tim buckley the first time i heard that song... finding that perfect peace while all h-e.. double toothpicks.. breaks loose around us... i am indeed grateful that i do have the power to change my world.... or at least make the effort...
ReplyDelete"grateful
ReplyDeletefor the kindness of angels (strangers)"...These lines stole my heart. Beautiful.
I love both the personal and global take on the prompt - may we always move forward with music and grace - Jae
ReplyDeleteUh...Beatles.

I could quote your whole poem back to you! You speak my mind and play my songs. Thank you for this wonderful poem and the song that accompanies it
I love that you began this poem with a Beatle's classic. The Orange Demon can't reign forever, and Mr. Moon may decide he's had enough.
