Liverpool Plains NSW

earmarked for destruction
prehistoric and worth a look
before it is mined

beauty disappears
ripped apart because of man's
rapacious nature

For The Weekend

Heatwave In The Outback

days spent
floating and dreaming to
'dark is the night'
piping out a spray
of memories from
a small cd player in a garden basket
hanging overhead from the old rusty roof
part shading the pool

gazing at billowing white clouds
in a blue sky framed by
the silver of olive trees moving lightly
in the 45 degree shimmering heat
i swim naked

there is nothing quite like
feeling that natural freedom
far away from the city crowds
no one around
just me
the birds
the bugs
the things that sting
pure summer magic

Doors

__

shed doors
blank canvas in waiting
the magic of paint

i gave you
the key to my heart
you showed me the door

an old door
like an old sheila
has many uses

literacy
the door to
opportunity and success

who knows
what really goes on
behind closed doors

seek and ye shall find
the doors will be opened to you
when
when
when
when

knock 3 times
open sesame
surprise !

the year to celebrate
the end of the door mat

Not An English Country Garden

Cinquain

wild place
no roses here
or water for flowers
the garden struggles without care

beauty
found in strange forms
ancient dreamtime whispers
in a garden under the stars

George Benson - 20 / 20 vision

if i knew back then
what i know now
if i understood the what when
why or how
now it's clear to me
what i should have done
but hindsight is
20/20/ vision

the prospect of aging
was not even a speck
on the horizon

today
reality kicked in
time zoomed up
in a turbo charged
hot rod
screeched to a halt
in a  cloud of road dust
and said
greetings
"you are now officially old"

what?

Ode To A Settlers Cottage

you have been standing
on your sturdy little stumps
for well over a hundred years

how many voices over time
are locked in these walls
i wonder

how did you
survive the cruel heat
cooking on a fuel stove
bathing in a tin tub
praying for rain
most of the time

i lie here
with a million midges
poised outside the mosquito net
intent on eating me alive

listening to the strange creaks
and soft rustles and cries of the night life outside
the wind blows across the plains
in all its wild beauty
the skies open
the angels empty their cutlery drawer
on to the roof

i smile
you must have too
