The tide rolls in
the shells attached by suckers
to the rocks have been waiting
all day their sunbaked carapaces
cooled by salt sea foam
those that didn't make it lie
empty on the sand destined
to be pressed against
the sweat of a neck
or lie in a dark drawer

ReplyDeleteHow tragic it seems for the shells that don't make it, while the collectors look upon them as beautiful reminders of an enjoyable day. I love "sunbaked carapaces/cooled by salt sea foam". A unique take on the prompt.
