Getting Ready For French Lessons
It's Valentine's Day
I'm getting ready
for my French Lesson
Monsieur says I need
to practise my pronunciation
by rolling my tongue around an icecream
and growling rrrrs like Eartha Kitt
We always start the lesson with the same
tedious old song 'je t'aime moi non plus'
He says that if I dress in the French style
it will accelerate my learning
Sometimes I wonder if black stockings
will really improve my French
Have you ever watched 'allo 'allo?
ReplyDeleteIt cracks me up. ;-)
'allo 'allo
all my best,
Alan
Improve your French what?
ReplyDeleteVery entertaining poem. Off now to find Brett Whitley on Google images.
Qu'est ce que "cauchemar" BTW?
Ce n'est pas Doctor FTSE signing off and wishing you
all the very best. always. Hugs :-)
Thanks Dawlin'! Un 'cauchemar' is a nightmare.
ReplyDeleteGood to find a razor edged wit to spar with
and glad you liked the poem.
Hugs back to not Doctor FTSE.
But what about the title(s) of the pictures! Magritte was making a wry comment on a controversy that was - at the time - shaking the very foundations of mathematics! (Not kidding you, Rallenntanda!) Ask yourself "What EXACTLY is the demonstrative pronoun "This" or "Ceci" referring to . . . ? More later.
ReplyDeleteTo understand the significance of the photos you have to understand that in French 'une pipe'has two meanings.Margritte was making a joke...If you google 'ceci n'est pas une pipe'
ReplyDeleteit will tell you the sexual meaning of 'une pipe' It is very rude so your sensibilites may be offended.
No more talk of maths on my blog please.Think
earth wind and fire thoughts.I am, right at this moment.
If you put on French stockings it would improve my oral skills but somehow the sight of me in french stockings might have an adverse effect on you!

Hi Rallentanda! I did as you suggested, but the top several Google hits, including WIKI, link to articles about the paradox implicit in the title of the picture. Can you tell me the exact link to the alternative jokey meaning that your reply suggested? (I promise . . no more refs. to maths!)
ReplyDeleteBTW . . . only just noticed your pic. of one who is "not an option trader"! You're quite right - but the resemblance to the real thing is uncanny!
ReplyDeleteAw shucks . . I get the feeling I'm losing! Hugs anyway. :-)
Monsieur Duffy you could be right. It must be
ReplyDeletethrilling having a poet laureate in the family.
Love the whole thing - best line: the way the lesson begins every time. That speaks volumes.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed this Karen. There is a good you tube video of Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin singing' Je t'aime moi non plus'..this song was banned everywhere in 60's..it is so tame by today's standards and really cringemakingly oily and irky!
ReplyDeleteHahah - loved this, such wit!
ReplyDeleteOoo, la la!
ReplyDeleteThanks eejit and Argent.Visit again soon.
