Strumpet Champ 2010

Strumpet Champ 2010

She staggered onto the motorcoach
lumbering bags of fruit squeezing into her seat
almost falling out of her magenta top
fumbling around in her bag for a turquoise makeup mirror
The old man sitting next to her holding a potted fern
glanced furtively at her leopard skin costume
causing his spartacles to mist
This heated moment was nonpareil to the usual exasperation
he normally felt when being squashed by a fellow passenger
His eyes moved slowly to her open handbag where he caught
a glimpse of a silver cup with bold engravened letters

*spartacles* is a word for spectacles used in Sussex UK
Chris H of Middenshire Chronicles ( a Spartacus look alike) introduced me to this
and I believe he also has a nice pair of spartacles.

  1. I loved this poem! And thank you for the plug! I may even have a crack at writing a poem this week. Now, what rhymes with strumpet, I wonder...? x

  2. Hi Rall,

I thought she was preparing for a Carmen Miranda lookalike competition! I reckon she could mist many a spartacle.

    Lovely new header pic.

  4. I wonder what the other contestants were like?
I like the hair rollers. You youngsters may not realise that girls used to wear these in the 60s...not usually outside the house.I remember attending a university exam in the 60s and a girl turned up wearing rollers.I was aghast.I even remember that her name was Lorna.Miss Prim the late bloomer was not affected by the cultural revolution until the 70's.
