Maundy Thursday is the celebration of the " THE LAST SUPPER" and is the first day of Christ's Passion.
Thought this would make a good prompt for Easter week.Found this interesting snippet from a well known atheist, John Mortimer.
Yet no one can deny that the Christian belief in the supreme importance of each individual soul was a great advance on faiths which thought of slaves as soulless. The King James Bible is of extraordinary power and beauty, and subsequent cack handed translations now used in churches have reduced a work of inspired poetry to mere improbability.
Much of the literature I've valued, the art I've most enjoyed, has been produced by unquestioning Christians. Whether I'm a believer or not, I'm a part of a Christian civilisation.
The Last Supper
There was something ominous
in the air that night
A heightened bonhomie
between them all could be
perceived as a little strained
As he broke bread a few particles
seem to be suspended
fleetingly floating in mid air
before they dropped like snow flakes
to the floor
Beads of sweat suddenly trickled
down Iscariot's neck
He had been in good form that night
unusually attentive and charming company
He left the room briefly
his sandals filled with lead
so heavy he could hardly put one foot
in front of the other walking in slow motion
Gathering his repose,he steeled himself
to his resolve and practised his kissing pout
for the big occasion
From someone who cannot shut up: I'm stumped. This topic provides such a wide palette with many opportunities. The central subject has been so thoroughly mis-understood from the first hour (I wasn't there, but so I've heard). What to do here? Must ponder...
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you find this challenging BD.It is a difficult one. So you weren't there! My sources always get everything wrong.
ReplyDeleteI am doing another of these and am attempting to try to portray the humanity of Jesus,as an expression of love and generosity.
