there were so many
to learn from and watch out for
it was important
she was not allowed
to make a mistake for she
knew she would pay dear
this was the lesson
so she tip toed over cracks
while holding her breath
sign crossing herself
wearing scapula medals
just can't be too sure
her mistakes were few
but she still breathed in gulps
anxiety plus
time flew by,she grew
old,she had slipped up,she had
forgotten to live
You have the gift of endings that's for sure Rallentanda (and beginnings and middles too!)..the biggest slip must be forgetting to live..life is what happens when your busy tip-toeing over the cracks..Jae
ReplyDeleteLove it, learning to live with inevitable mistakes... very well written!
ReplyDeleteI read an article recently by a hospice nurse who had collected peoples dying comments. This ties right in with what she reported. Your poem is poignant, well-constructed, and I loved it!
