i don't know why
they say
it's never too late
once the door is closed
it stays shut forever
nothing can entice me
to take a chance
with you
again
the intense hurt
undergone for so long
obliterates all feeling
i savour the numbness
of peace that remains
there was a time when
i would have died
for that display of affection
you proffered tonight
not now..nothing
you are too late
Ouch. Really? Is there nothing I can do??

ReplyDeleteugh..it may take some time until the door really closes..but when it's closed, it's difficult to open it again..
ReplyDeleteTrop tard, trop tard!
ReplyDeleteOui,c'est fini et je suis tres contente etre encore libre !
ReplyDeleteIf it's closed it's just too bad. That's right it's just too late!If we keep on to certain principles people respect us! Nicely Rall!
ReplyDeleteHank
sometimes its really good to close that door.
ReplyDeleteYep!
ReplyDeleteSometimes we keep holding on believing things will change...truth is, all we do is allow the pain to continue. Love should (mostly) always bring us joy, not hurting. Awww...It takes courage to call it quits but, if something is destroying our soul piece by piece then, it's best left behind and then allow ourselves time to heal.
ReplyDeleteGood for you for finding the courage to say 'Enough'
The last verse is all there..control..a little power maybe..inside..(the most important place)...jae
ReplyDeletethere does come a time you are much better off closing the door and throwing the key into traffic....
ReplyDeleteWounded affection heals slowly, sometimes (often?) never. "i savour the numbness / of peace that remains" . . . poignant, hinting that perhaps we never fully get over the pain. I like!
ReplyDeleteSometimes it is too late......
ReplyDeleteWell you have made the right decision. Better a new start than a lifetime of regret. If that was really you on your header picture I would be mortified at my loss. Just keep me guessing.
ReplyDeletegreat poem illustrating one of life's classic moments: nicely done
ReplyDelete..all things must pass...away a-yay
ReplyDeleteHurt and betrayal, sharply recorded.
ReplyDeleteThe other side to the case would argue that you are both different people now. But that doesn't guarantee that the change is for the better.
It is a poem about timing. Timing is crucial..one lags behind the other is gone!

ReplyDeleteit can be a hard stance to take at first, but when the "numbness of peace" sets in...it becomes a bit easier.
