For The Weekend

a beautiful winter sun
dies softly into the plains
the bird song ceases
the stillness fades
as night falls on the ancient vastness

this is my last day here for a while
i leave you and my other dreams
snug and warm in this little farm house
until i return

you know
sometimes
sometimes you just take my breath away

an observer
never a group person
solitary and reflective

Robert Herrick Stanza Form

let's stay together forever
i want to , so do you
no one will ever match like us
we should try, see it thru
oh yes
we'll stumble thru the mess
such fuss
and all the other crap
we are both crazy and clever
two misfits on the map

Soft Jazz On The Plains

Liverpool Plains NSW

poets united

soft jazz in the middle of nowhere
on a sunny winter's sunday afternoon
looking up at this big sky one wonders why
blue is associated with sadness

you would say it is not love
all i know is that anything  wonderful
that happens to me
i  always feel an overwhelming need to
to share it with you

a kind word from you has me dancin'
pathetic perhaps but you make want to
embrace the world - it's a great feeling

Guess What

dverse

why is this woman naked ?
no no no - no it's not what you think
she is conducting a  science experiment
which involves her lyre playing man servant

science experiments
were more interesting in days of yore
no labs, no lab coats, no fuss
just a comfortable bed and a couple of tiger cubs

da da da dah
da da da dah
ah yes that's ----

he espied her maths equations
at a lecture
t'was love at first sight
his heart went
boom boody boom
boody boom boody boom
boom boody boom
boody b b boom

long nights of calculus
and equations to look forward to
with full mugs of hot milo
on their honeymoon
and perhaps even room service
(just once as a treat)

tatay tatay tatay ta
tatay tatay tatay ta

no he did not write it
but yes he did use the tune in some variations.

For The Weekend

dear  neighbour

say listen
if you out there
sorry

you lent me this cd
just found it lodged
in a book  i have not
opened for 20 years

your  glam girlfriend
drove a porsche convertible
i could hear you talking to her
through the wall -3am
tsk - no secrets in  terrace houses

paddington has changed
we got the tail end of the village feel
pretentious merchant bankers  have invaded

you used to play very cool music
you must be middle aged now
what a depressing thought

hope you have enjoyed your life
if  i knew where you were
i would send it
i cannot remember your name
or even your face
but i will always remember your music
thank you

caught up in the intrigue of the court

to lure her into his bed

the spans finally joined up
but that is as far as it goes

ne'er the twain shall meet
chalk and cheese and
that suits everyone fine

some are bankrupting themselves
to get to the other side
others would only cross under sufferance

we look different
we sound different
we are different

one  side
represents colour and movement
kikes tykes and dykes

the other
a tree studded dormitory
the bastion of anglicanism
and all thing conservative

Airborne Adventuress

maps of the explorers
my favourite lesson in primary school
journeying with little fingers
tracing the red line
sailing ,island hopping with captain cook
discovering the komodo dragons
hearing the toms tom drums of the cannibals
who ate my great great uncle
in the New Hebrides

"How To Serve Humanity"

i used to dream of sailing in a little boat
close to the coast  line
like matthew flinders did with his cat trim
my cat would be called geoffrey
how did flinders find fresh drinking water at the beaches
he stopped at?
i still don't know

sister celestine told us the explorers
use to give the aborigines  oversalted corn beef sandwiches
so that they would be  forced to lead the explorers
to their secret waterholes or die of thirst
a small group of pigtailed little girls in pinnies GASPED
i thought my mother should know about this
she smiled " sister celestine is irish, dear! "

i wonder how long it would take me
to get to broome
in a clapped out red van sans air con
packed with water and oranges
or  even by camel ride

every symphony and concerto
i can whistle i suppose
plus reciting
every one of the thousand poems
i have written...except
i can't remember any of them

if i hit the overland trail
upside -  i don't need my love to keep me warm
downside - death by scorching heat
camel bite or didgeridoo music

nah - i will get captain cook to fly me this time!

Three Word Wednesday

griping and bitching
just stalling techniques
in a crisis
to avoid the inevitable
SPLIT

Who's counting

mid week motif
dverse

you owe me 13 cherry kisses
3 french hens 5 golden rings
13 squeezes a partridge in a pear tree
13 pink whispers (not chinese )

budgie smugglers

if you do not tell me you love me within 13 days
i will plant 13 camelia bushes in your front yard
steal all 13 of your budgie smugglers and wear them as hats

i will  send snowhite and 7 (doubled minus one) dwarves to your house
to fire 13 missiles into your jacuzzi

it will take me 13 hours or even days to get over you
i will cry 13 salty tear drops into 13 lace handkerchiefs
every 13th day of every month
calling out your 13 hyphenated names

Haitian Divorce

Poetry Jam

7 years of renovation
hard slog
down the tube
down the gurgler
into the swirl of
sexually transmitted debt

everything gone
up in smoke
psycho flattened it
with his dunhill leather gloved hand

because it got in the way
of his dinky toys  classic cars
and nap time

i would like to blame myself
for not seeing the signs
but no one could have predicted
the extent of self destructiveness
and sheer lunacy in this one
with his lovely show pony manners
and fluent french

how many times can i start again
with nothing and a new kiss of death in tow
(stop laughing Rall)
a lot it seems

a veritable maestro

she has successfully
dampened her volcano
with a super powered
sprinkling system
of academia
esoteric studies
philosophy theology
and high culture

but
turn up the rumba
and
the half moon specs are tossed
pandora's purple box is opened
all the signed agreements
ne'er to kiss cherry red lips are shredded
she hits the dance floor
she's off and running
at the lightning speed of a gazelle

Flattened

we frolic about

madcap cats
jumping for joy
and then
we trap ourselves

frantically
trying to escape
we destroy
the box
our joy is no more

a cat can never resist
an empty cardboard box
and the box
well the box lies in wait
death by pouncing and prancing
is its destiny

Three Word Wednesday

over the years
we have forged a bond
i grumble
and want more
always more
never being one
to settle for crumbs
a full feast or nothing
a painless split  can
never happen with us
no such thing
i need you like
flowers need  rain

Poetry Jam...La Luna

we write songs about it
blue moon
bad moon rising
we make movies about it
la luna
blood moon
moonstruck

we try to run away from it as children
putting our hands up to touch it
climbing trees to get closer
we can see it is made of cheese
we can see the man smiling

in the full moon
the dogs start howling
the moon flowers become agitated
and for those still connected
to primitive man and spirituality
- ditto

we become troubled unsettled
our antennaes are alert
our insights are sharpened
our ancestors visit us in dreams
voices who are long gone
buried in the past reappear

we always know when the full moon
is about and relieved when it goes
years ago they would have locked us up
now  - they put us in charge of things

fear kills everything
don't retreat behind 'normal'
dare,be different

shark attack on boat
they beat a hasty retreat
dangers of the sea

a peaceful retreat
meditating by water
healing the spirit
