Willow

a bad hair day
for a sad weeping willow
stretching sagging limbs

stunted by root rot
her green is brighter death rattle
before the fall

Betty Churcher 1931 - 2015

stop the clocks
betty churcher died
on this magnificent warm autumn day
of blues russet orange and vermilion
an artwork especially provided by the angels
in testament to her passing

australia's art world is mourning
for this passionate talented  brave
gracious and beautiful woman

she was the fool that rushed in
where angels feared to tread
and it paid off

a mother of four the only woman
ever to be made director of
the National Art Gallery of Australia
while the press sneered at the idea
that a brisbane mum could be anything

before she lost her sight
she sketched all of her favourite works
so she could remember them
before she went completely blind

the colours do not shine as brightly
without you betty
you can never be replaced

Evicted ...Blanford Fletcher

When Betty Churcher first saw this painting at the Queensland Art Gallery at the age of 7 it changed her life. It made an impact. She describes it as a magic carpet taking her to another realm. Strangely enough the setting is in Autumn.

her inspiration
autumn
her death also

Slave

this was the best part
of her day
arranging the flowers

feeling the softness of petals
the perfume of early morning
filling the room

she dreamt of having
her own room one day
with a white lace curtain
a vase of flowers
and a strong lock
to keep the master out

praying  hard
that she was not with child
which would seal her fate
putting paid to any hope
of her  ever having  a piece of
white curtain  lace
in her sad sorry life

Sunshine

Victor Borgia: Leonid Hambro

in a  frenetic life
a visit from these
two clever  darlings
bring a smile
reminiscent of
a slower time
a simpler time
a time of our grandparents
radiating soft charm
warming  the heart
releasing our thoughts
from diurnal grind
just for a few minutes

a lovely performance
from two twinkling little stars
now sharing a box seat
in the galaxy somewhere

Zion By Fast Car

 mindlovemisery's menagerie

Lines from Tracy Chapman's song "Fast Cars"
and Psalm 137

i want a ticket to anywhere
by the waters of babylon
starting from zero
got nothing to lose

i had a feeling i could be someone
be someone
be someone
i'd always hoped for better
we lay down and wept
and wept
for thee zion

you gotta make a decision
leave
we remember
we remember
we remember
thee zion

or
leave the harps
hanging in the trees
shrivel and die

Landays On Sunday

Mindlovemisery's Menagerie
BJ's Shadorma and Beyond

Feeling nervous at an interview
Break out into song and watch their faces. What a hoot!

I live in a lovely treasure trove.
You can ostracise me from your hovels if you want to.

She sang "On Ilkey Moor Ba t'at"
None of them understood her but all clapped politely.

Even at school she had charisma
None of us were surprised when she became a princess.

She always said you are not alone
The only time I called her for help she was busy

Climb every mountain. Ford every stream.
Just try it sometime. Never believe in mushy songs.

For The Weekend

Friday 13th

cool grey and wet today
the bats head in legions
to the botanic gardens
for friday 13th party  night
the satanic creatures darken the sky
bigger in numbers than ever before
carriers of the deadly virus

now a protected species
they become more contemptuous
screeching and shit bombing
all the cars on their way
knowing they are beyond reproach
well that's what they think
until one of them kills the wrong person
(somebody who counts )
then it will all change

Random Thoughts On Men

Midweek Motif Poets United

With Shakespeare Quotes

Georges Correface

in action how like an angel!
in apprehension how like a god !

come live with me and be my love
and i will make you cups of tea
laced with ouzo retsina yippee !

i wandered lonely as a cloud
but now
Under love's heavy burden do I sink

what a piece of work is man
not so much brain as ear wax!
Love is merely a madness

Whoever loved that loved not at first sight
And so, all yours
The prize of all too precious you
Sit by my side and let the world slip;

Best Man

3WW

it was a messy divorce
brought about by the envy
of his best friend
who calculated and schemed
to undermine his marriage

was so obvious to everyone
he chose
the same car
the same colour
the same boat
a similar wife
from the same school
the same religion
the same height
the same hair colouring
but it was not enough
so
BINGO
the little termite
gnawed away
at the foundations

AND
he got away with it!

any woman can tell you
what this is all about

women
scary in groups with sharpened claws
character assassinating their latest victim
eliminating the competition
jungle sport is such good fun

small wonderful band of  rarities
who climbed out of the trees
sometime back
