Midweek Motif PU

today
a working day
i choose
to turn off the phone
stay in bed
sleep late
write this poem
drink hot chocolate
watch a movie
cuddle my marmalade mohair boy
chain saw purring so loudly
i'm forced to read the subtitles
the gale force wind howls
rattles the old windows
bending the tree tops
a good day to be indoors
a twinge of guilt emerges
remnants of life long conditioning
pointing its accusatory finger at me

i poke it back into its suitcase
sink back into the pillows
remind myself
it is unlikely i will be fired
i sleep with the boss
Great ending.
ReplyDeleteHa, mine is much on the same wavelength. :)
ReplyDeletewonderful twist
ReplyDeleteHa! Very charming. k.
ReplyDeleteI hope nobody heard me laugh out loud at the end. Loved the twist.
ReplyDeletea day off is an absolute necessary for life...enjoy...
ReplyDeleteBrilliant take on the prompt....the concluding part is awesome, Rall :)))
ReplyDeleteI often wish for the kind of off day you describe... without the necessity of the final twist.
ReplyDeletewhat an ending - no wonder you could enjoy the guilt trip. Very clever poem!
ReplyDeleteHahaha! Gorgeous! And that finger of guilt takes the prize! Glad you sleep with the boss.
ReplyDeleteLOL, cool ending! I was applauding the wisdom of taking a day like that to rest rather than working. We all work way too much. Sounds like a perfect day to me!
ReplyDelete(◕‿◕。) Nice one Rall, have a great day
ReplyDeletemuch love...
I'm laughing my head off at the sleeping-with-the-boss line! You just made my day!
ReplyDeleteSuch a charming piece!!
ReplyDeleteLol! Your closing lines crack me up! Unexpected and well delivered! :)
ReplyDeleteI love hooky and I love the ending here!
ReplyDeleteHa. Well, then I'm sure you'll keep your job. This was so good. Made me think about my over-active conscience. Love your ending. Thanks for making me smile.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a perfect day to me! But I always feel guilty when I'm just sitting on the porch with a pencil and something to write on.
ReplyDeleteOoh stinger of a last line - we love it! (of course)...sit back, enjoy your day in bed and give that kitty a stroke form us two...aah...sometimes it's good to uncondition our brains!
ReplyDeleteYou made laugh, I needed that this morning.
ReplyDeleteSome days we just need to do that!
ReplyDeleteI liked that twist in the end :-)
ReplyDeleteLOLL, glad you enjoyed your day of relaxation indoors, Rall. NOBODY has died of guilt yet! :-)
ReplyDeleteGood one.
