Openness

Midweek Motif   - Poets United

the hawk and the wren
whirled through the sky
blissfully
flying and swooping
all  summer long

autumn came
when  the hawk broke the news

he had neglected to tell wren
of his bird realm
in which he is all powerful
generational king  predator
where the wren species is not welcome

not that wrens
don't have their uses of course
they make pretty agile dance partners
flirty summer fun
before they become
tasty autumn lunch

Alphabet Soup

complex branch gristle lachesism upturn
flash deadfall arabesque saliva  tremble
numb quilldriver wistful jaundice itch
zizag mud kookaburra rough yield
error verse obey hard xerarch

MLMM

for a copy writer in advertising
he was good at upturning verse
evoking a lot of trembling
wistful  responses

became disillusioned with
zigzagging
performing convoluted arabesques
through the mud climb
on the way to the top

so increasingly
numbed by
the salivating idea of success
and
tired of obeying orders
another jaundiced  complex quill driver
tempted to yield to lachesistic proclivities
got a flash
zing ding ding
xerarch

he was itching to go
find his inner pulse
in the outback
but
unused to the rough hard terrain
and too weighed down with mojo whizbangerie
made an error of judgement
he walked right into it
a deadfall
bingo!

the kookaburras laughed hysterically
at his plight
tossing a snake around in the branches
like a piece of gristle

Sunday's Whirligig

look at his babes
all bursting flesh at the seams
lies popping from his mouth
like juicy grapes sweet
as a nightingale's song

to add insult to injury
rubs salt and wine in the wounds
ascends the temple steps
posing as the righteous

this is a cooling off period
take as much time as you need
he said

oh really
knock knock hello-o
the guy is a prick
run
run

Easier Said Than Done For the Weekend

friday night
my last weekend here
for a while
some special moments
this time

a splendid rainbow popped in to say goodbye

sad to leave my garden too

not even the ocean
will cheer me up when i return
next week

i lost my heart here
somehow
in the bush
and i have to
get it back again

A Note For Joan Miro 20th April1893 -1983

A Birthday Note For Joan Miro

happy birthday joan
at first
they thought you were a loony
daubing all those organic shapes
and calling it art
26 million dollars for a painting later
who is the loony?

i believe you kept your atelier
pristine and organised
unusual for a visual artist

unlike Francis Bacon's cesspit

is this rall being judgemental again?
Yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
and
loving it

joan's organic building
housing his doodles and daubs in
mallorca spain

childlike and edible
a rainbow cake of the mind
sugar and marzipan on canvas
touch of a christmas party about it

you died on christmas day
now how did you manage that?:)

i hope you are daubing and doodling
wherever you are
grafitti - ing the entire establishment/zone
in dauber's / doodler's paradise

if you are living next door
to francis bacon
that could present a problem

then again
he might be located in a different area
to you

Home

i'm at home
on the  ancient plains
where a mob of roos
greet me at sunrise

(Apologies for the poor quality of this pic. They are timid creatures
any closer ...and they take off.)

i'm at home
where country guys
wear akubras and work boots
ride horses drive utes
and call me luv

i'm at home
with big skies
where i can touch
the milky way and stars
with my finger

i'm at home
swimming in the harbour
swimming at the beach
swimming in a creek
swimming in a bath

i'm at home
with empty vast spaces
miles of white sandy beaches
few people
rusty corrugated iron
water tanks
dunnies and icy cold beer

i'm at home
going to the supermarket
in a swanky harbourside suburb
wearing shorts a singlet top
birds nest  hair and a straw hat
straight from the beach
no one blinks an eyelid

i'm at home with you
but not enough to live
where you live

i'm only at home
in the wide brown land
here
at the bottom of the world
next stop
the south pole

Prestissimo Cinquains

too fast
slow down he said
too speedy just breathe out
so she played faster and faster
laughing

wicked
rebellious chick
no one could steal her joy
she sprinted through life  - a gazelle
laughing

Sunday's Whirligig 54

breathing against kinds impossible coffee unfold
comes sleeping white probability skull bricks

the screeching of white cockatoos
penetrate the skull at the unfolding
of another pink sunrise
making sleeping  impossible

a ton of bricks lies on my chest
making breathing difficult
as i swim against the current
of prevailing thoughts

all these kinds of situations
come with consequences

there is as much probability
of coming to a solution as
you bringing me a cup of coffee
in bed in the morning

APRIL

An Erasure Poem based on THE WASTE LAND by T S Eliot.

1. The Burial

april
is the cruellest month
breeding desire
stirring dull roots
with spring rain

he took me
and down we went
there you feel free
south

south
where the sun beats
no relief
dry stone
no sound of water

i will show you the garden
looking into the heart
of light
the silence sighs

that corpse you planted
in your garden
has begun to sprout

2 Game of Chess

stay with me
speak to me
what shall we do tomorrow
what shall we ever do?

you ought to be ashamed
you are a proper fool
hurry up !

3 The Fire Sermon

the wind crosses
the brown land unheard
at the violet hour

she is tired
expect nothing

4 Death by Water

the cry of the gulls
the deep sea swell
entering the whirlpool
gentile or jew
once handsome
and as tall as you

5 What the Thunder said

after the frosty silence
after the agony
a spring sings
drip drop
drip drop

when i count
there are only you and i
together

when i look ahead
who is that
on the other side of you

in the faint moonlight
a flash of lightning brings rain

limp leaves
black clouds
shaking my heart
the seals
broken by the solicitor
in our empty rooms

Sunday Scribblings 2

i am late

Misery acquaints a man with strange bedfellows. I  will here shroud
till the dregs of the storm be past.....Shakespeare

Who is this cool dude who has befriended me? Read my work for years. Sensed that I was suffering by reading between the lines.Reinforced my worth , me, having just been steamrollered by an accomplished clever hussar; so gifted, his words like beautiful butterflies would reel in your head all day long while you took a euphoric walk through the clouds.

in the dark time
someone sent a light
a really bright one

For A Unicorn With Love

they came in chains
as slaves
they have citizenship now
it does not protect them
they live in fear

did you check the car?

check the car
a hundred times
before you go
to the store for groceries
any broken parking light
could mean a summary execution

if you see a cop car
pray
pray
the angel of death
may pass by your door
this time

practise
'hands up'
in a nano second

wear
padded protective clothing
in areas
where jack boots are
likely to land
to soften the blows

lower your eyes
if questioned
say
'sorry sir'
to everything

you live
my black unicorn darling
with constant anxiety
in fear
fear for your children

thank you
for telling me
what it's like
we
all need to know

a black president
made no difference
the fact
you have defended your country
in the armed forces
means nothing
it will not protect you

your chains
were never
really removed

the home of the free?
(chortles )
most certainly
if you're white

For The Weekend

still swimming
in glorious
autumn sunshine
to handel harp tinkles

in a pool
with small lizards
dragon flies
covered in
pink peppercorns
and leaves
in the heat
of the  midday sun

i think of you
your writing scrawled
over this decades old tape
das klangermusik

i think of you
the shrieks of laughter
lifting the beast
on to a mattress
in the back of a station wagon
tootling off to a concert
to play this

i think of sir o e
your professor
his elegant crossed legs
a small pipe dangling
seductively from the side
of his mouth
and you
you wicked minx
torturing that poor man
with your insanely overpowering beauty

they were wonderful days

her shadow
tinkling on the harp
her beauty
inspiring
she gave it all up to be
a dutiful wife
