I was being given a lift to work by a neighbour once. Concerned about the time, I was keeping an eye on my watch. "Look", he said "If it's important, they'll wait for you. if it's not important, why are you going?" Easy for him to say, he was retired.

He was a retired magistrate and driving a vintage Rolls Royce, so his grasp of reality was tenuous at best and I cut him a little eccentric latitude.
