Cast Away

her small photo
glimmering in the fire light
kept him alive
all those years

thoughts of her as
the waves pounded the shore
night after night
in desperate loneliness
gave him hope
to carry on
to escape from the island
to be with her once more
somehow

reality changed all that
she had become bound up
in all the social conventions
a new husband a child a house

torn and tempted  to return to
the love of her life
she found
the comfortable chains of obligation just too tight
they could not be broken
so she buried him
again
for a second time

  1. Intense, and the music sets the mood. How often do we bury our hearts and our God(s)? I loved that movie.

  3. A well laid insight. What a problem. What an ending.

  4. I must confess I saw that movie 3 times (even though Tom Hanks is not my favorite male actor). Well that will get everyone weepy at his dilemma all over again!

  5. A change in reality is sometimes so overpowering..."comfortable chain"...the contrast hits hard...

  6. Powerfully written. Struggles, conflicting emotions, choices with no winners. Immensely sad.

  7. Love what you did with this. Certain changes can bring on a struggle of the heart. Yes, she did bury him twice. A poignant write here!!
