Australia's Great Barrier Reef

strange wonderful creatures
glide quietly and gracefully
underneath the ocean
in a silent mysterious ballet
blissfully unaware
their days are numbered

the great barrier reef is dying

we indifferent custodians
are killing it with
poison and pollution
collateral damage
from mining

all so we can have
more of everything
when in the real sense
of enrichment
all we have
and will ever have
when the reef goes
when climate change
takes its toll

is nothing

  1. This just hit me like a shot. So true and tragic and preventable. As an American, I am disgusted how my President is such a vainglorious idiot.

  3. Powerful, Rall. I got the full impact by reading your poem after the video images and music. The death and loss of the reefs is breaking my heart.

  5. Wow, the video is beautiful, set to one of my fave pieces of music. And your poem's message hits my heart. In a couple of weeks, catch Robin's Chat at Poets United, he talks about the Great Barrier Reef, and other concerns.

  7. Such a sad commentary on the thoughtless greed of man. Eloquently worded.

  8. That is the problem of electing politicians that are blind except for the profit they make out of being in power. We trash our own country and poison the seas for the benefit of overseas investors. Utter madness!

  9. That day will certainly come if we keep battering the Earth

  10. We are indeed going to be left with nothing after we have exploited the nature.
    A thought provoking write.

  13. So sad and horrifying! I fail to understand how those in power can even contemplate the harmful decisions they take.
