the world descends on sydney
at this time of year
the locals escape to wherever
yours truly to the peace and quiet of the outback
away from the crowds
looking up at the milky way
on this lovely evening
i wish you all a happy new year
may 2018 bring peace and prosperity
to you all
away from the crowds
i welcome in the new year
with stars in my drink
happy new year! hope the stars in your drink will make all your wishes come true.

Best place to welcome the new year - in the outback with stars in your drink. Perfect!
ReplyDeleteOh I would love to welcome in the New Year with stars in my drink....too cold here for that right now as the snow flies and the wind makes it below zero....wishing you warmth and light on this New Year!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful New Year.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of stars in your drink - I will endeavour to capture some in mine. Fingers crossed.

I love the stars in your drink! Happy New Year to you.
ReplyDeleteHow envious I am of you being able to escape to the outback. There is nothing quite like seeing the stars so clearly then.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love the stars in your drink! And envy you the outback night sky, which I have not seen for a long time.

ReplyDeleteWow ... what a wonderfully composed tanka and haiku.
ReplyDeleteLate in getting my comments to you. A lovely way to start the new year, I think. Yours always comes a little earlier that ours in the States. Love getting away to where the stars really shine in the sky.
