THE BODY

Elle Macpherson aka "The Body"

made millions
from her toned body
it wont last
beauty fades
flesh has an expiry date
youth flies by quickly
(shadorma)

in the age of
the frivolous
the superficial
the mindless
the preoccupation
with body image
we have
an epidemic of young people
with eating disorders
and women
with frankenstein faces
(botox gone bad)

without a soul
an empty tabernacle
no matter how enhanced
will never shine

In a recent survey researchers were surprised to learn that the majority of people would choose to go without food rather than sacrifice their beauty products. Beauty products and a car were considered to be the most important things.

  3. That is so true: 'flesh has an expiry date
    youth flies by quickly'.
I would never subscribe to the cult of the Frankenstein face, which you have summed up so well in the lines:
    'an empty tabernacle
    no matter how enhanced
    will never shine'.

  4. Well captured, and moving, especially:
    " an empty tabernacle
    no matter how enhanced
    will never shine"

  5. I love it! And the research facts are an indication of how disconnected society is from values old and true. Sigh.

  7. How wise your words and how vain (some of us are)as we bow down to the God Botox in an effort to stave off ageing.
I like to think I grow old gracefully, if somewhat reluctantly...

  8. 'flesh has an expiry date'.. this is so true. It's our soul that carries on. Beautifully rendered.

  9. There is nothing more beautiful than a fresh faced girl with no signs of lipstick, makeup or eyeshadow with her hair blowing in the wind and her sparkling eyes catching your attention.

  10. This is real-talk, Ralls. Youth is fleeting, and it is pointless to go chasing after the superficial. Lovely sentiment and spot-on.

  11. You're right: It's the soul that endures. The body fades away.

  12. Beauty comes from within and that radiates outward. It is sad that society is so obsessed with retaining youth.
