Woohoo ! Last night, more than forty thousand dinkum Aussies broke the Guinness Book of Records
They got together in different locations all over the country, took photos of the night sky and found two super novas. Usually one is only found every century. They were blessed with favourable conditions,a clear bright cold sky. No one really knows how old the universe is or if indeed it has an age at all. The universe is ascertained by scientists to be over 15 billion years old and the Aussie effort has found information that makes it another 533 million years older than we thought it was.
See that small dot just below the larger dot in the centre? That's the second confirmed supernova spotted by citizen scientists during Stargazing Live.
