Pocket Wilderness

Patti Joyce

afternoon adventures
in that pocket wilderness
lovely thoughts of a summer childhood

a tiger and a ferocious hound of the baskerville
lurked in the bushes
waiting to pounce on us and drag us away
to their lairs

swinging on  low hung branches
we  imagined ourselves to be
jungle jane girlfriends of tarzan

running through  waterfalls
getting saturated shrieking
we built a shelter  out of branches
our secret hidey hole

and all within a stone's throw
of the kitchen  back door
and the call to come in for tea

  1. Yes, yes! We had an imaginary wilderness, too, in a place that except for proximity to the house and the trace of many feet, was wilderness enow.

  6. Those inbuilt memories of who we once were now are shattered by iPads, goggleboxes and busy thumbs whilst legs and arms are secretly wishing to explore once more.

  7. Childhood frolicking in the rain is such fun. Even if within the house area it was still reality through great imagination! Very real Rall!
