A Country Gal

“I have lived on the land coming from Kootingal originally, and I know how hard it can be to go without much water,” Mrs Logan said.

As drought conditions continue to take hold throughout the state, many farmers are beginning to run low on water. Rationing of water has already begun with some areas having already run out.
One Gunnedah local is doing her bit to help ease the burden of water rationing by offering up her washing machine to farmers in need.

Gunnedah’s, Katrina Logan, said giving farmers in need a chance to do their washing was the least she could do to help.

Mrs Logan said it did not matter how much washing people had, everyone was welcome to use the machine.

“It’s actually an outdoor machine away from the house, so it really doesn’t matter what goes in it or how dirty it is,” she said.

“There is also a shower with it as well and people are more than welcome to use it to wash their hair or just have a nice shower.

“Given that we are on town water this is what we can do to help those guys make what little water they have go a bit further.”

an outback angel
who understands
pelting rain means a full tank
with the luxury of sinking into
a full bath

an outback gal
who understands no rain
means no baths
a hit and tickle shower
and 'puddle' washes

her charitable  gesture inspires hope
and a flicker of recognition in the writer
of a kindness lurking somewhere in the distant past
not encountered for a long time

thank you katrina

  5. For those of us who live in places with running water on tap, drought is hard to imagine but you made it so real to me, Rall. Katrina Logan is truly an outback angel and I enjoyed your tribute to her, in particular the phrases ‘hit and tickle shower’ and 'puddle' washes!

  6. Australia always was well known for its "Mateship" in helping others. It is good to hear this still exists.
