i can't imagine being married for 36 years
(it happens)
i can't imagine having a beautiful song like this written for me
this was written for the lovely blonde woman
dancing with her husband in the video clip
(it happens)
i can't imagine being dumped by the husband
who writes love songs for me after 36 years
(it happens )
i can't imagine the suffering undergone
when women reach their expiry date
and are traded in like cars for a newer model.
(it happens)
i can imagine dancing with the broom in the moonlight
(it happens )
beats dancing with my heavy true love marmalade boy
who's not into dancing and sleeps a lot

Neil Young has released a personal statement on the death of ex-wife Pegi Young, who passed on Jan. 1 2019 after a yearlong battle with cancer at the age of 66.
“Thanks Pegi, for being such a wonderful mother to our children. You live on inside of them and the many you have touched.”
The couple met in 1974 and married four years later, and went on to work closely together until they divorced in 2014. She’d been a member of his touring band since the early ‘00s and previously they’d worked to develop the annual Bridge School Benefit concerts, created to raise funds and awareness for the Bridge School, a nonprofit co-founded by Pegi in 1986.
Their divorce contributed to much of the material of Pegi’s last album 2016’s Raw. She later described it as “a soundtrack to the seven stages of grief,” explaining that she hadn’t expected the split to take place. “We go through things we may not’ve expected, what we thought was maybe our future. But even if we get the shock of our lifetime, life goes on. You figure out who you are again, and you just keep going on. I’m a living persona of that.”

This has long been one of my favorite song videos, and your take on it is poignant. Adding a dash of reality to this Valentine's week. I think we are on the same page this week.
ReplyDeleteHaving married late in life I will be dead before 36 years. But we are working on 15. Never would have imagined that.
ReplyDeleteGood for you! :)
DeleteI've always loved Neil Young's music and was dismayed when he and Pegi-May divorced after so many years. My husband and I have passed the 26 year mark.
ReplyDeleteA good inning so far:)
DeleteI've not been traded in for younger, but it happens. A broom and moon create the loveliest shadows. :)
ReplyDeleteNo fan of divorce, but I've known women who dumped men when the men became ill too. Some people can't deal with it. Sad.
ReplyDeleteI know from personal experience that there is a grieving period similar to a death. Thanks for sharing
