saturday night
it was the unloseable election
everyone said so
there was hope
for a fair go for the little aussie battlers
not to be
the light went out again
and darkness descended upon this land
what is wrong with people
Australia's ruling conservatives have won a “miracle” victory in the nation's election stunning pollsters and the opposition Labor party, which failed to convince voters they should back its progressive agenda to tackle inequality and climate change.
Mid Week Motif - Poets United
The right wing is rising everywhere. We are freaking doomed. So sorry about your election. In Canada there are some right wingers taking power. What is wrong with people indeed? It is like half the population drank the koolaid and lost their minds.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Piglet!
ReplyDeleteYep... I really don't understand the world anymore.
ReplyDeleteI take solace in the fact that us black Americans rarely make it to 60. I'm almost done with this nightmare hellscape.
Poo.
ReplyDeleteDid you have to remind me? Here am I mourning for the probable death of the Great Australian Bight, The Barrier Reef and the decision to continue coal mining in Australia to the detriment of everything including our essential river system. I still can't believe th majority of Australians would choose disaster rather than paradise in our own land just for the short term gain of a few financiers and investors. As someone else said I'm thinking of emigrating to New Zealand!
ReplyDeletePopulist leaders and parties are gaining and regaining power everywhere. Our election results are coming out tomorrow. I think this is what we all deserve perhaps. That may be the brutal truth. Well said!
ReplyDeleteMy country's heading the same way. Tomorrow is the result day. Light is becoming a distant dream :(
ReplyDeleteLight is so hard to create and quick to extinguish. One blow is all it takes, whether it is used to feed to flames or put them out is another story.
ReplyDeleteNice end line. The people are the ones who vote
ReplyDeleteMuchđź–¤love
My Australian friends agree with Pooh Bear .... as do I.
ReplyDeleteIt seems the world has gone slightly askew!
ReplyDeleteAll the books I've read where the Light tries to push back the dark come to mind. We need to plan bigger, better.
ReplyDeleteThe light dims everywhere you look. Every. Country seems to be right-angled. I love your little cartoon, Rall.
ReplyDeleteFuck indeed! But, following on from Susan's comment, we need to shine our light brighter! And to use it to light more and more candles. The only way light can push back darkness - or even illuminate it - is to get bigger and brighter, and keep spreading. A huge task, but worth the effort and the never-giving-up-no-matter-what. Disbelief and despair are natural, but we must not stay there.
ReplyDeleteFear driven by ignorance begets calamity Ral - and the world seems overflowing with scared dumbasses!
