Halcyon Days

sunshine and picnics
halcyon days of childhood
in a gentler time

 no one knows
what the future holds
life is no picnic

if you go down in the woods today
don't talk to strangers
enjoy your teddy bears picnic

listen to the bird song
and if you hear a rustle in the bushes
run for your life

  1. I love this. I always think of the Teddy Bears Picnic song in regards to picnics, which takes me back to childhood. Those were halcyon years for sure. I wonder if today's kids feel the same way, and somehow suspect they dont, because they are too aware of all the turmoil.

  5. No matter how we advance over tha ages there always seem to be people that are cruel and dangerous in our midst. The only thing we can do is alert our children of the dangers in this world, so they take care.

  6. It's rather sad to make kids aware of the perils about. We were not warned in our childhood. Specially in India a girl child is so unsafe...

  8. A dreamy look back to other times, when picnics seemed less fraught with the notion of dangers. Now it can only be a more guarded experience...

  9. How times have changed! You depict this so well in your poem. Love how you presented it as well with this series of haiku.
