the sea was wild today
the rocks were given
a thorough pounding
by the angry sea
who left this gift
of two little angels
by the warning sign

was it to remember the fishermen
washed off the rocks
the tourists who drown here
every summer
a prayer for the protection
of everyone who comes here
was it a thank you gesture
for this beautiful place
which so many enjoy
i wonder if these angels
will be here tomorrow
Midweek Motif - Poets United

I love the 3 (separate- but-not)-pieces. It gives an overall picture of observations on the beach. The pounding given by the sea makes me chuckle. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat an image! Whether or not they are there on the morrow, the idea of angels hovering by an angry sea is terrible-gorgeous, and I will never forget it.
ReplyDeleteI imagine someone will probably take them but you never know...I'll keep you posted:)
ReplyDelete"...gift / of two little angels"...In the poem these words may mean so many things but if they stand alone they appear so precious and gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteIt was a lovely gesture on someone's part to do this. I think they have probably lost someone to the sea here.Poetry is a very effective way of telling a story.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely, the two small angels, perhaps in memory of someone who was lost. Once, years ago, I walked onto the beach one morning to find a life sized statue of a lady, sitting on the rocks. It was quite amazing.
ReplyDeleteThose little angels better be there. Because regardless of how or why they are there, they are now a gift to anyone who comes by the beach. A thoughtful gift, I say. Great write!
ReplyDeleteRallentanda, I could fall in love, with this piece of Australia that you've captured for us. Some may see the waves, as violent and destructive, to me, they're the rhythm of life, on Earth that we ignore, at our own peril.
ReplyDeleteSadly, there are too many memorials like this, where a love one has been killed, by careless drivers. Often flowers and stuff animals are left behind, by those, who are grieving. I do hope that these angels aren't for a recent lost love one, to the waves.
As for my little ones, they pull their weight, with their kisses and cuddles with me. Honestly, can you imagine a carnivore making a vegan meal? Shudder at the thought.
How lovely! I wonder where they came from.
ReplyDeleten this part of the world, "shrines" are often placed at or near the places where people died in a car accident. Sometimes, people even will buy the priviledge to have a year round sign remembering the person. It is a sweet thought. I like the thought of those two angels left there for someone to find.
ReplyDeleteSadly few seem to realise how unpredictable and powerful the sea can be and just go for a dip despite the warning signs and the angels praying that they don't enter the water. Even Harold Holt our prime minister back in the 1960's died this way (on another beach).
ReplyDeleteLuv the mystery in the gift given. How so we take for granted the aspect of gift-giving as just needing to be received but yes this side of the coin is ponder-able, how mature this intimation.
ReplyDeletemuch love...
Evanescent gifts, these angels...
ReplyDeleteThose angels are still there. The green keeper has even mowed around them.
