Terania Creek

an ancient rain forest
terania creek was our secret place
many years ago

the  perennial sound of the falls
the occasional crashing branch
and bird shrieks
never marred the peace
in this special healing place

then the loggers came
the hippy locals
fought them off and won

then the tourists came
and no one can win
against that phenomenon
of inevitable destruction

it was the last time we were all  together
happy and  swimming in the creek
with dear alfredo

implausible back then
to think he would die so soon
that we would now be dead
to each other

time moves on
time to find another healing forest

  2. Oh Rall this is so sad, but I admire what you all did to stop the loggers before. I agree time to move along and find a new healing forest!

  3. Sad story, so sad. I'm happy that you know what peace can be, you know what you're looking for..

  4. So sad...what a beautiful place. Heartbreaking to have lost Alfredo. Here in our tiny village of 1800, tourism has a huge impact, as a MILLION tourists drive and clamber over every inch. Like living in an anthill.

  5. It's so sad that even to retain peace one has to fight for it. Humans are not worth the name. Well said.

  7. I too feel sad when a place that holds a special meaning, is suddenly overrun with tourists and crowds. Somehow it's hard to reinstate that original sense of peace..

  8. You knew peace, and hopefully will find it again.

  9. It broke my heart too to foolishly return to place I was born and grow up until I was ten only the find that all the place we would explore and play as children had all been built over with schools and housing developments. Talking about this other said never go back as it will always hurt.

  10. Thank you everyone. I have found another place of peace. A complete contrast in the outback.

  11. A terribly sad tale of inevitability. Big hugs to you.
